There are .50 BMG rifles, and then there is the Barrett 82A1. This is the platform that proved a shoulder-fired, semi-automatic fifty could be done right, and it has been refined for decades since. Model 13318 is the CQ configuration, which swaps the standard 29-inch tube for a 20-inch fluted, chrome-lined barrel. That brings overall length down to 48 inches and shaves real weight off the front end, so it hauls easier, fits a normal-length case, and handles better on a bench or barricade than the full-size gun.
The heart of the rifle is Barrett's short-recoil operating system. Instead of your shoulder soaking up everything the cartridge produces, the barrel and bolt recoil together and spread that impulse out, and the dual barrel springs, long mainspring, muzzle brake, and Sorbothane recoil pad all pitch in. The result is a big fifty that most people describe as a stout 12 gauge rather than a punishment. The chamber is chrome plated and cut to run both civilian and military spec ammunition, and the extractor and ejector are built to keep cycling in dust, mud, and cold.
Up top you get a 23-inch M1913 rail with 27 MOA of built-in elevation, which gives long-range optics the extra adjustment they need to stretch this cartridge way out there. Flip-up front and rear sights are on board as backups, the adjustable location carry handle makes moving 30-plus pounds of rifle less of a chore, and a lightweight quick-detach bipod handles support duty. Front and rear sling loops round out the field-ready setup.
The rifle breaks down into upper and lower receivers for transport and goes back together with two assembly pins, with your optic staying zeroed on the upper. One 10-round steel magazine and a hard carry case come in the box. Few rifles turn heads at the range like an 82A1, and this shorter CQ version is the most packable way to get one.
The CQ runs a 20-inch fluted barrel instead of the standard 29-inch tube, cutting overall length to 48 inches and dropping some weight. You give up a bit of muzzle velocity, but you gain a rifle that is far easier to transport, case, and maneuver. The operating system, magazine, and controls are identical to the full-size gun.
