The Ballistic Advantage Modern Series 16" barrel is one of those parts that just plain works, which is why it shows up on so many home builds. It runs a government contour paired with a mid-length gas system, chambered in 5.56 NATO with a 1:7 twist. That combination is about as close to a do-everything setup as the AR-15 platform gets, handling everything from lightweight 55 grain plinking rounds to heavier 62 to 77 grain projectiles without complaint.
Everything here is machined from 4150 Chrome Moly Vanadium steel, which is the tougher, longer-lasting cousin of the 4140 steel you'll find on cheaper barrels. It gets a full QPQ salt bath nitride treatment inside and out, so the bore, chamber, and exterior all carry the same hard, corrosion-resistant finish. The M4 feed ramp extension is QPQ coated too, which helps keep feeding smooth and reliable when the rifle is running fast.
The mid-length gas system is the real selling point for a lot of folks. Moving the gas port farther down the barrel gives the system a bit more dwell time, which translates to softer recoil, less wear on parts, and a gun that's genuinely more pleasant to shoot over a long day. The government profile keeps a little meat under the handguard to help hang steady and dampen barrel vibration for better groups.

You get a .750" gas block journal, a 1/2×28 threaded muzzle that takes just about any flash hider, brake, or thread protector, and a listed weight right around 28 ounces. Yes. The 1:7 twist rate is the fastest common AR-15 twist and is built to stabilize heavier 62, 69, and 77 grain projectiles. It still shoots lighter 55 grain loads just fine, so you're not giving anything up by running a versatile mix of ammo.
The .750" gas block journal comes standard and works with clamp-on gas blocks out of the box. If you plan to run a set-screw style gas block, a dimple helps lock it in place over the gas port so it can't rotate or drift under hard use. Many builders add the dimple as cheap insurance on a high round count rifle.
A mid-length gas system moves the gas port farther down the barrel, which slows down and smooths out the cycling of the action. The result is softer felt recoil, less battering on internal parts, and a rifle that's just more comfortable to shoot. On a 16-inch barrel it's widely considered the sweet spot for reliability and shootability.
The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28, which is the standard pitch for 5.56 AR-15 barrels. That means it accepts nearly any flash hider, muzzle brake, compensator, or thread protector on the market. Direct-thread suppressors and suppressor mounts in that pitch will thread on cleanly as well.
