Battle Arms Development set out to fix the two things that usually go first on a standard charging handle: the roll pin and the pivoting latch. The RACK for .308 rifles ditches both. Instead of a small latch pinned to the shaft, it uses a monolithic billet handle with a patented mechanism that slides parallel to the receiver notch when you pull it. Grab either side, or both, and the head unlatches cleanly. That's what gives it the smooth, positive pull people rave about, and it means you can rack it one-handed without stressing a weak pin.

What Makes the RACK .308 Different

This thing is built around asymmetric use. Most mil-spec handles were designed to be pulled straight back with two fingers, so yanking from one side loads up the latch pin and eventually wears it out. The RACK's design lets it handle left or right pulls with equal confidence, which is exactly what you want during a reload or clearing a malfunction under pressure. It also makes no contact with the sides of the upper receiver, so you get less friction, a faster stroke, and a lot less wear over thousands of cycles.

The RACK is machined from a single piece of 7075 billet aluminum and wears a black hardcoat anodized finish that shrugs off corrosion and blends right into any dark AR build. At just 1.48 ounces it won't add noticeable weight up top, but the solid, low-wobble feel is what folks tend to notice first when they swap one in. Only three major components make up the whole assembly, so there's not much to fuss over.

Fit Notes Before You Buy

The RACK .308 is designed for DPMS-pattern platforms like the Aero Precision M5. It is not compatible with the ArmaLite AR-10 or SIG716, so double-check your receiver pattern before ordering. Installation is quick, and once it's in, you've got one of the toughest ambidextrous handles going for your .308 or LR-308.
