The Battle Arms Development WORKHORSE 16-inch upper is one of those parts that just makes a build easy. It comes fully assembled with the bolt carrier group and RACK-15 ambidextrous charging handle already in place, so you pin it to your lower, run a function check, and you're ready to head to the range. It's chambered in 5.56 NATO, which means it happily eats both 5.56 and .223 Remington, and the whole thing is put together with the kind of enhanced touches Battle Arms is known for rather than the bare-bones parts you usually see on a "complete" upper.
Everything starts with a forged 7075-T6 aircraft-grade aluminum receiver finished in Type III hard coat anodizing, so it holds up to hard use and looks the part. The 16-inch barrel is 4150 chrome-moly steel with a nitride finish inside and out for wear and corrosion resistance, capped with an A2 flash hider on 1/2×28 threads. M4 feed ramps and an individually head-spaced barrel with a matched 9310 bolt and 8620 carrier keep feeding smooth and reliable round after round.
The free-float 15-inch M-LOK handguard is the part you'll appreciate most day to day. M-LOK slots at the 3, 6, and 9 o'clock positions give you plenty of room for a light, sling mount, bipod, or hand stop, while a full-length Picatinny rail up top runs the length for optics and backup irons. Because the handguard floats free of the barrel, nothing you bolt on interferes with accuracy, and the slim profile makes it comfortable to grip and easy to control.
