Battle Arms Development built the WORKHORSE line for exactly what the name suggests: hard use, day in and day out. This 10.5-inch 5.56 NATO version is a complete upper assembly, and unlike a lot of "complete" uppers on the market, it arrives ready to run with a BCG and the BAD Rack-15 ambidextrous charging handle already in the box. Bolt it onto your lower and you have a compact carbine-length build with almost no fuss.
The heart of it is a 10.5-inch 4150 chrome-moly vanadium barrel with a black nitride finish and a 1:7 twist, which handles a wide range of 5.56 and .223 loads without complaint. It runs a carbine-length gas system with a low-profile .750 gas block tucked neatly under the handguard, plus an M4 barrel extension and feed ramps for smooth feeding. The muzzle is threaded 1/2×28 and wears an A2 flash hider, so swapping in your own muzzle device or can adapter is easy down the road.
Battle Arms head-spaces each barrel to a matched 9310 steel bolt and 8620 black nitride carrier, which is a big part of why these run so reliably and clean up easily. The forged 7075-T6 receiver is hard-coat anodized for durability, and the free-float WORKHORSE M-LOK rail has attachment points at 3, 6, and 9 o'clock with a full-length Picatinny top rail for optics and irons.
At 10.5 inches this is a natural fit for a compact, maneuverable build where you want short-barrel handling without giving up 5.56 punch inside typical distances. The free-float rail keeps your accessories off the barrel for better consistency, and the included ambi Rack-15 handle is a genuine upgrade over the usual mil-spec latch. It's a lot of upper for a build that's meant to get run hard and stay dependable.

The 1:7 twist is versatile and stabilizes a broad range of 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem loads, and it really shines with heavier bullets in the 62 to 77 grain range. Lighter 55 grain plinking ammo runs fine too. It's a great all-around setup for a do-everything short build.
