The Birchwood Casey Full IPSC Silhouette is built from 3/8" AR500 hardened steel, the standard-bearer for reactive targets, and it's rated to handle up to 3,000 ft-lbs of bullet energy. That covers just about everything from 9mm and .45 ACP on the pistol side to .223, .308, and 30-06 on the rifle line. Instead of walking downrange to check paper, you get that instant audible ping and a visible splash of paint scuff every time you connect.
Birchwood Casey went with precision laser cutting rather than the cheaper plasma method, which keeps the edges clean and burr-free without overheating the steel and softening it around the cut. That matters for target life, because heat is what leads to premature chipping. The bright white powder coat does double duty here, cutting down on the paint you'd otherwise burn through and making the silhouette pop against dirt berms and brush at distance.
Multiple mounting options mean this plate plays nice with whatever setup you've got, whether that's a 2×4 post rig, a hanging bracket, or a dedicated stand. For safe, long-lasting use, hang it with a slight forward lean of around 10 to 20 degrees so fragments deflect down into the ground. Keep pistols back at least 10 to 15 yards and rifles out to a minimum of 100 yards, and stick to standard lead-core FMJ or jacketed ammo. Steer clear of steel-core or armor-piercing rounds, which chew up even hardened AR500.
It's a workhorse for USPSA and IPSC match practice, but plenty of folks just enjoy the feedback for a casual range day. Take reasonable care of it, flip it now and then to spread out the wear, and this silhouette will outlast stacks of paper targets. Eye protection is a must every single time you shoot steel.

For pistols, keep a minimum of 10 to 15 yards between you and the target. Rifles should be shot from at least 100 yards, and if you're pushing velocities above 3,000 fps you'll want even more distance to avoid pitting. Distance is your main safety buffer, so more room is always better.

Angle the face forward about 10 to 20 degrees so bullet fragments deflect down into the ground rather than back uprange. A proper hang also helps the plate absorb impact and extends its service life.
The bright white powder coat gives you good visibility right out of the box, and hits show up as scuffs against the white. You can freshen it with a quick spray of paint when the coat wears down, but many people just run it as-is. Flipping the plate now and then also helps spread out the wear.
