There's something about a steel gong that a paper target just can't match. The Birchwood Casey AR500 15" round gong is built from 3/8-inch AR500 steel and cut to a full 15-inch diameter, giving you a generous aiming surface that new and experienced shooters alike can connect with. Every solid hit rings back at you with that satisfying clang, so you'll know instantly whether you're on target without walking downrange to check.
The plate is precision laser-cut for a clean, burr-free edge and finished in a hi-vis white powder coat that pops against dirt, brush, or a berm. That bright face makes it easy to pick up your aim point and spot your hits even at longer distances. Birchwood Casey rates this AR500 construction to handle up to 3,000 ft-lbs of bullet energy, so it holds up to steady centerfire practice when you keep it within its limits.
Square mounting holes are built in and work with common carriage bolts, so you can hang it from a variety of stands, frames, or shop-built rigs. It plays nicely with 2-in-1 gong hangers and standard target systems, though the mounting hardware and stand are sold separately. Hang it with a little swing and it'll take hits better and last longer.
AR500 at 3/8-inch is a great all-around thickness for centerfire handguns and standard rifle calibers when you respect proper distances. As a rule of thumb, keep handguns back at least 10 to 25 yards and rifles out to 100 yards or more, and always stick with lead or standard jacketed ammo. Avoid steel-core, armor-piercing, or green-tip rounds, which can chew up any steel plate. Follow those basics and this gong will give you years of ringing feedback at the range.
This 3/8-inch AR500 plate is built for centerfire handguns and standard rifle calibers when shot at safe distances. Stick with lead or standard jacketed ammo and avoid steel-core, armor-piercing, or green-tip rounds, which can damage any steel target. Keeping your loads within the target's energy rating is the key to a long-lasting plate.
As a general guideline, keep handguns at a minimum of 10 to 25 yards and rifles out at 100 yards or more, with more distance for high-velocity or magnum loads. Distance is your main safety buffer since it lets fragments slow down before they reach you. Always check the safe distance for your specific caliber and follow your range's rules.
The target ships as the steel plate on its own. It has square mounting holes that fit common carriage bolts and work with 2-in-1 gong hangers and standard target stands, but you'll need to pick up the hardware or hanger separately. Hanging it with a bit of swing helps it absorb impacts and last longer.
Steel gives you instant audible and visual feedback, so you hear the ring and see the swing the moment you connect. That means no walking downrange to check hits and a lot more trigger time during a session. The bright white finish on this Birchwood Casey gong also makes it easy to pick up your aim point at distance.
