The American walnut stock, grip, and vertical foregrip are engraved with period scenes, giving the whole package a level of craftsmanship you rarely see on a production gun. No, this is a semi-automatic carbine that fires from a closed bolt, unlike the original open-bolt submachine guns. It keeps the classic 1920s profile, finned barrel, and Cutts compensator while functioning as a modern semi-auto rifle. That means one trigger pull, one round, every time.
It ships with a 50 round drum and a 20 round stick magazine right in the box. Auto-Ordnance stick and drum magazines made for the current 1927A1 line will run in this carbine, so adding spares is easy. Original military surplus mags can be hit or miss, so sticking with Auto-Ordnance mags is the safe bet.
The distressed look is intentional and applied at the factory. The Midnight Blue and Satin Aluminum Cerakote is aged by hand to give it that decades-old vintage character, so every gun has a slightly unique appearance. Underneath the aged look, the Cerakote is a modern, durable finish that holds up well to handling and range use.
Thompsons are all steel and walnut, so expect real heft, generally in the neighborhood of 13 pounds unloaded before you add the drum. The upside is that all that weight, combined with the Cutts compensator and the soft-recoiling .45 ACP cartridge, makes this one of the smoothest-shooting carbines you can put on the line. Follow-up shots are quick and muzzle rise is minimal.
