There's a good reason the Memphis Belle became one of the most celebrated aircraft of World War II. The Boeing B-17F and its crew were the first to complete 25 combat missions over Europe and return home, and their story became a symbol of grit and sacrifice that has outlasted the war itself. Auto-Ordnance put that history into a 1911, and the result is one of the more striking commemorative pistols you're going to find at this price point.
The finish work here is what separates this from a standard GI pistol. The OD Green Cerakote serrated slide mirrors the bomber's olive drab livery, while one side of the slide carries the "Memphis Belle" name in yellow Cerakote script alongside a military star roundel with Navy Blue and white lettering. Flip it over and you'll find the mission tally, bomb silhouettes marking each of the plane's completed sorties, just like the real aircraft wore on its fuselage. The gray Cerakote steel frame with Armor Black controls ties it all together. The hardwood grips feature inset period pin-up artwork in the nose art tradition of WWII bomber crews. Because the artwork is hand-created by the craftsmen at Altered Arsenal, no two of these pistols are exactly alike, and minor color variations are part of what you're getting.
Under all the artwork is a solid GI-spec 1911A1 platform. The carbon steel slide, sear, and disconnector are heat treated for long-term durability, and the frame includes a beavertail grip safety alongside the traditional thumb safety and a modern firing pin block for an added layer of drop safety. The 5" stainless steel barrel and full-size Government frame give you the classic 1911 feel and the natural pointability that has kept this design in service for over a century. Sights are GI-style, blade front with a drift-adjustable rear, which keeps things true to the era the gun is honoring. Chambered in .45 ACP with a 7+1 capacity, this is a pistol you can actually take out and shoot, not just display.
Auto-Ordnance built this as a GI-spec 1911A1 that is meant to be shot. The frame, slide, and internals are the same proven platform used across the Auto-Ordnance 1911 line, with a heat-treated carbon steel slide and a stainless barrel. The Cerakote finish is extremely durable, so regular range use won't compromise the appearance under normal conditions.

Auto-Ordnance notes that no two of these pistols are precisely alike, which actually adds to their character as individual collector pieces.
It comes with the traditional 1911 setup: a thumb safety, a grip safety located at the beavertail, and a modern firing pin block. The firing pin block is a practical addition that prevents the firing pin from moving forward if the gun is dropped, without affecting the trigger feel in any meaningful way.
