Original wartime carbines have gotten expensive and most have seen hard use, which is exactly why Auto-Ordnance builds this one. It is a new-production reproduction made with freshly manufactured parts on modern CNC equipment at Kahr's plant, so you get the look and feel of the classic without paying collector money for a tired original.
The details are where this rifle shines. The stock and handguard are genuine American walnut, the 18 inch barrel and steel receiver wear a period-correct parkerized finish, and the sights are the traditional blade front with a flip-style rear, just like the GI setup. Receiver markings follow the original pattern too, including the U.S. Carbine Cal .30 stamp forward of the bolt. At 35.75 inches overall and a feathery 5.4 pounds, it carries and swings the way a carbine should, and the .30 Carbine cartridge keeps recoil mild enough that new and seasoned rifle owners alike can run it all afternoon without getting beat up.
This is a genuinely fun range gun. The gas-operated action with its rotating bolt cycles the 110 grain loads it was designed around, and the little cartridge steps out around 1,900 feet per second, putting its energy in the neighborhood of a .44 Magnum. That makes it a capable choice inside 150 yards or so, whether you are ringing steel, introducing someone to centerfire rifles, or keeping a light, simple carbine handy around the property. This AOM140 version includes a single 10-round stick magazine and a crossbolt safety, and standard M1 Carbine magazines and accessories are widely available if you want to stock up. For history buffs, plinkers, and collectors alike, it is one of those rifles that never sits in the safe for long.

As with any carbine of this design, magazine quality has a big influence on feeding, so it pays to stick with good condition GI-spec or quality new manufacture magazines.
The .30 Carbine pushes a 110 grain bullet at roughly 1,900 to 2,000 feet per second, which puts its energy close to a .44 Magnum. It is a light-recoiling round that is a pleasure to shoot and does its best work inside about 150 yards. That makes this carbine a great fit for range days, plinking, small to medium game at modest distances, and general utility use.
At 5.4 pounds and 35.75 inches overall, it is lighter than most modern semi-auto rifles fresh out of the box. That featherweight handling was the whole point of the original design, and it still stands out today. It shoulders fast, carries easily all day, and is comfortable for smaller-framed folks too.
