There are AK pistols, and then there are Arsenals. The SAM7K-55 starts life in Bulgaria as a hot-die hammer forged receiver blank, which then spends over five and a half hours on the mill before assembly even begins. That forging process squeezes out the internal voids you can get with receivers machined from plain bar stock, leaving finer-grained, stronger steel underneath. It is a slow, expensive way to build an AK, and it is exactly why these guns have the reputation they do.
The 8.5 inch cold hammer-forged barrel comes from Arsenal's Bulgarian factory with a hard-chrome plated bore and chamber, so it shrugs off steel-cased ammo and neglect alike. Up front you get a threaded front sight block in the classic Krink configuration with 24×1.5mm right-hand threads, ready for your favorite muzzle device. Out back, a Picatinny rail on the rear trunnion gives you a mounting point for accessories, and the included AK side scope rail handles optics. The peep rear sight is a nice upgrade over standard AK notch sights, and the ambidextrous safety lever works with the purpose-designed US-made pistol grip. Black polymer furniture keeps the whole package light and weather-resistant at about 5.87 pounds.
The short gas piston system runs the way you expect a Bulgarian AK to run, which is to say it just goes. It feeds from the included 30 round Arsenal Circle 10 magazine, widely considered among the best AK mags made, and accepts standard mil-spec magazines in 5, 10, 30, and 40 round capacities. The 7.62×39 cartridge out of a compact platform like this makes for a fun range gun, a capable truck gun, and a legitimate option for close-range pistol hunting.
Arsenal builds these with 100 percent new-production parts, including a forged bolt, bolt carrier, and double-hook trigger. This is the kind of AK people hold onto and hand down, not trade off after a season. If you have been waiting to buy once and be done, this is that gun.

The front sight block uses the standard Krink-pattern 24×1.5mm right-hand thread. That opens up a wide range of AK muzzle devices, including Krinkov-style flash hiders and boosters made for that thread pitch. Just confirm 24×1.5mm RH compatibility before ordering any device.

You have two options. The pistol includes a traditional AK side scope rail for side-mount optic setups, plus a 1913 Picatinny rail at the rear of the receiver for compact accessories. Between the two, mounting a red dot or similar optic is straightforward.
