Description

There are AKs, and then there are Arsenals. The SAM5 starts life as a hot-die hammer forged receiver blank in Bulgaria, then spends over five hours on the mill before it ever becomes a rifle. That forging process squeezes out the internal voids you can get with receivers machined from plain bar stock, leaving finer-grained, stronger steel underneath. It's the kind of build quality that made milled Arsenals some of the most collectible AKs on the market, and this one runs affordable, easy-to-find 5.56 NATO and .223 Rem instead of the usual Combloc calibers.

What Sets the SAM5-67PM Apart

The 16.3 inch barrel is hammer forged and chrome lined, so it shrugs off corrosion and cleans up quick after a long range day. Up front you get 14x1mm left-hand threads wearing Arsenal's AK-351 muzzle brake, which comes off if you'd rather run something else. Inside sits the FIME Enhanced Fire Control Group, a two-stage trigger that AK fans consistently rank among the best drop-in options out there, and here it comes installed from the factory. Adjustable sights with an 800 meter rear leaf handle iron sight work, while the side scope rail takes standard AK optic mounts like the SM-13 when you want glass.

Plum Furniture Done Right

The reinforced plum polymer stock set is a nod to classic Bulgarian military rifles, and Arsenal even ships this one with a matching plum 30 round magazine. There's a stainless steel heat shield tucked inside the lower handguard to keep things comfortable during longer strings, and the fixed intermediate-length buttstock hides a trapdoor compartment for the included cleaning kit. Bayonet and accessory lugs round out the traditional touches.

A 5.56 AK Built to Outlast You

At about 9.45 pounds this rifle has some heft, and that milled receiver soaks up recoil to keep muzzle rise tame. It feeds from standard 5.56 AK pattern double-stack mags, ships with a sling, oil bottle, and cleaning rod, and is built entirely from new production components. This is a rifle made to run for decades, not a parts-kit build.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the Arsenal SAM5 take standard AK magazines?

It runs 5.56 AK pattern double-stack magazines, and Arsenal builds it to mil-spec so standard 5.56/.223 AK mags feed fine. Keep in mind these are not the same as 7.62×39 AK mags or AR-15 magazines. The included 30 rounder matches the plum furniture, which is a nice touch.

What's the difference between the SAM5's milled receiver and a stamped AK receiver?

Most AKs use stamped sheet metal receivers, which work fine but flex more and generally don't hold up as long. The SAM5's receiver is milled from a solid hot-die hammer forged blank, giving you stronger steel, a stiffer platform, and noticeably softer recoil thanks to the extra weight. It's the same style of construction found on early military AKs and it's a big part of why milled Arsenals hold their value so well.

Can I mount an optic on the SAM5?

Yes. The rifle comes with a standard AK side scope rail on the left of the receiver, which accepts common AK optic mounts like Arsenal's SM-13 quick-release rail (sold separately). That lets you run a red dot or scope while keeping the adjustable iron sights as backup.

Is the muzzle brake on the SAM5-67PM removable?

It is. The barrel has 14x1mm left-hand threads with the AK-351 muzzle brake installed from the factory. If you want to swap in a different brake or flash hider, just make sure whatever you pick is cut for 14×1 LH threads, which is the standard AK pattern.
