Description

The Stealth Recoil Spring is a self-contained multi-stage drop-in replacement that handles both buffer and spring duties in one unit. What makes it different from a traditional setup is that the spring never rubs against the inner wall of the buffer tube, which is the source of that metallic "twang" most AR owners know all too well. The two-stage design reduces felt recoil while keeping everything quiet and smooth from shot to shot.

How the SRS Gen4 Design Works

The Gen4 version refined the formula by eliminating the O-ring from the weight, switching the screw to a roll pin across the plastic end piece, and machining the cap directly onto the rod. These changes were made to remove potential failure points. The system keeps constant tension on your bolt carrier group, meaning many builders run it without a buffer retainer since you don't need one for reliable function.

Noise Reduction and Feel

Since there's no spring-to-tube contact, you get a much quieter action. This is noticeable both at the bench and during drills when the rifle cycles. The dual-stage spring system also changes how recoil feels compared to standard setups. Instead of that sharp mechanical impulse, you get a smoother, more elastic sensation that many find easier on the shoulder and more controllable for follow-up shots.

Install and Use

It fits carbine-length buffer tubes on AR-15 platforms and is truly a drop-in swap. Before installing, tighten the screws using two 3/32" hex keys simultaneously or use one key with leverage through the rod hole. The polymer bumper faces toward the rear of the rifle, and the weight mass faces the bolt carrier. Most people run it without a buffer retainer for easier maintenance. Keep in mind that bolt carriers with rear openings under 0.60" won't work with the SRS, though this is rare. Made in the USA and backed by Armaspec's lifetime warranty.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will the SRS work with any AR-15 or are there compatibility issues?

The SRS Gen4 is designed for AR-15 platforms with carbine-length buffer tubes. Most bolt carriers work fine since they have rear openings over 0.60 inches, but there are a few older or specialty bolt carriers with smaller openings that won't function with the SRS. Check your bolt carrier's rear opening before ordering.

Do I need a buffer retainer with the Stealth Recoil Spring?

No, you don't need a buffer retainer since the SRS keeps constant tension on the bolt carrier group. Many builders actually prefer to run it without one because it makes maintenance easier, though you can install it with a retainer if your build calls for one.

What exactly is the difference between the SRS and a standard buffer and spring?

The big difference is that the SRS is self-contained, so the spring never rubs against the inside of the buffer tube. This eliminates the annoying metallic spring noise you get with traditional setups. The multi-stage design also reduces felt recoil and keeps the whole action quieter and smoother from shot to shot.

How often should I clean or maintain the SRS?

The SRS is low-maintenance, but before initial installation and periodically during maintenance, retighten the screws using two 3/32-inch hex keys at the same time or use one key with leverage through the rod hole. The system comes with red LOCTITE on the front metal stop and blue LOCTITE on the bumper, and you should reapply LOCTITE when reassembling.
