Description

The Argos BTR is the scope that put real long-range performance within reach for a lot of shooters, and the GEN3 takes a good thing and tightens it up. Athlon redesigned the turrets and the magnification ring, moved the illumination control off the parallax knob where it belongs, and cleaned up the reticle with a floating center dot that makes precise aiming at distance much easier. The 8-34x magnification range gives you plenty of zoom for picking apart small targets way out there, while the 56mm objective keeps the image bright even when you crank it up.

The APRS11 MIL reticle sits in the first focal plane, which means your holdovers and wind calls stay true at every magnification. No mental math, no remembering which power your subtensions are good at. The reticle is glass etched for durability and illuminated for low-light work, and the exposed tactical turrets dial in crisp 0.1 MIL clicks with a built-in zero stop so you can spin back to your zero by feel. Side parallax adjusts from 10 yards out to infinity, which also makes this a sleeper pick for rimfire matches and air gunners who shoot up close.

The rest of the build holds up its end too. The one-piece 30mm aluminum tube is argon purged for fog resistance, the lenses get Athlon's advanced fully multi-coated treatment for solid light transmission and true color, and an XPL exterior coating helps shrug off dirt, oil, and scratches. An integrated throw lever makes fast magnification changes easy when you're moving between stages, and lens caps come in the box. If you're getting into PRS, stretching a rifle past what your current glass can handle, or building a bench or varmint rig that needs magnification on tap, this one earns its spot. It's a lot of scope for the money, and shooters who've run multiple Athlons tend to come back for more.

Frequently Asked Questions

What's the difference between the GEN3 and the older Argos BTR GEN2?

The GEN3 got redesigned turrets and a new magnification ring, and the illumination control was relocated outside the parallax knob, which is a much better setup. The reticle was also refined with a floating center dot instead of a full crosshair intersection, giving you a cleaner aiming point on small, distant targets. Core features like the zero stop, FFP design, and etched illuminated reticle carry over.

Is this scope good for PRS competition?

That's exactly the crowd it was built for. The first focal plane MIL reticle keeps your holds accurate at any magnification, the exposed turrets track in 0.1 MIL clicks with a zero stop, and the integrated throw lever speeds up power changes between stages. It's one of the most popular entry points into PRS-style shooting for good reason.

Does the reticle stay accurate at every magnification?

Yes. Because the APRS11 reticle sits in the first focal plane, it grows and shrinks with magnification, so the MIL subtensions are correct whether you're at 8x or 34x. That means your holdovers, wind holds, and ranging all work the same no matter where the zoom ring sits.

Can I use this for rimfire or air gun shooting?

You can. The side parallax adjusts down to 10 yards, which is unusually close for a scope in this class and makes it a solid fit for NRL22-style rimfire matches and high-magnification air gun work. Just keep in mind it's a 32-ounce optic, so it's better suited to dedicated precision rigs than lightweight walking rifles.

Is the Argos BTR GEN3 waterproof and fog proof?

It's built on a one-piece 30mm aluminum tube that's sealed and purged with argon gas, which resists internal fogging better through temperature swings than standard nitrogen purging. The exterior lenses also wear Athlon's XPL coating to fend off dirt, oil, and scratches. It's made to live outside in real weather.

Does it come with rings or a throw lever?

Mounting rings are not included, so plan on picking up a set of quality 30mm rings or a one-piece mount sized for your rifle. The throw lever is integrated into the magnification ring from the factory, and lens caps come in the box.
