Anyone chasing tight brass-to-brass consistency knows the headache: cam the die over against the shellholder for repeatability, and you lose the ability to tweak shoulder bump. Area 419 built this system to solve exactly that. You set your sizing die down until it contacts the shellholder, lock it in, and from then on you control shoulder bump by swapping precision-ground headspace inserts instead of readjusting the die every time. It takes the guesswork out of sizing and makes your results repeatable load after load.
The setup is clever in its simplicity. Instead of buying a different shellholder for every cartridge, you get one base, a set of caliber-specific tops, and a stack of inserts that stack up or down in .002 inch steps. Thread on the top that matches your head size, drop in the insert that gets you the bump you want, and the whole unit slides onto your press ram like any standard shellholder. Keep in mind that brass springback means the actual bump you measure won't always match the insert change one-to-one, so a little verification with a comparator gets you dialed in fast.
This is the traditional press version, so it works with your standard single-stage or progressive press that uses a conventional shellholder slot. It ships with a base, three shellholder/extractor tops sized for 223 (.384" bolt face), 308 (.470" bolt face), and standard magnum (.540" bolt face) or similar, plus six precision-ground stainless steel headspace inserts ranging from +.002" to -.008". Everything stores in an aluminum block so your inserts and tops stay organized on the bench instead of rolling around in a drawer.

Yes. This is the traditional press version, built to work with any press that uses a conventional shellholder slot on the ram. The base and top assembly slides into place just like a standard shellholder, so there's no modification needed.
You run your sizing die down until it contacts the shellholder and cam over slightly, then lock the die in place for repeatable sizing. From there you adjust shoulder bump by swapping the six precision-ground inserts, which change headspace in .002 inch steps. That means you stop readjusting your die every session and let the inserts do the fine-tuning.
The three included tops are sized for .384" (223), .470" (308), and .540" (standard magnum) bolt faces, which covers a huge range of common cartridges that share those head sizes. If your cartridge uses one of those three case head dimensions, you're set with the tops in the box.
Not always, and that's normal. Because of brass springback, the actual change at the shoulder can differ from the insert change you made, so it's worth confirming your bump with a comparator when you first set up. Once you find the insert that gives you the bump you want, results stay very consistent.
