The Archangel AA1500DT takes a factory short-action rifle and turns it into a legitimate precision setup without the cost or hassle of custom bedding. It's an aluminum pillar-bedded, fully adjustable stock built for the Howa 1500, Smith & Wesson 1500, and Weatherby Vanguard short-action rifles chambered in cartridges based on the .308. Slip your barreled action in and you get a rigid, repeatable platform that free-floats most barrel contours, which is where a lot of the accuracy gains come from.
Getting comfortable behind the rifle is what makes this stock earn its keep. The click-adjustable cheek riser gives you 1.5 inches of travel in tiny .05-inch increments, so you can line your eye up perfectly behind the scope and keep it there shot after shot. Length of pull runs from 13.5 to 14.625 inches on a thumbwheel, meaning a taller shooter in a t-shirt and a smaller-framed shooter in a heavy jacket can both find their spot. The gooseneck-style grip with palm swells and a flared base gives you solid control whether you're prone on a bipod or settled onto a bag at the bench.
One of the standout touches is the internally integrated bi-pod that sits flush in the forend. It deploys with a switch using one hand and has textured feet for grip in dirt, then folds away completely out of the way when you don't want it. The wide sloped forend is shaped for sandbag and rest work, with a grooved gripping surface and a thumb rest at the magwell. You also get three steel flush-fit hardpoints for QD sling swivels and a locking storage compartment in the grip for small essentials.
The AA1500DT is molded from Archangel's carbon fiber and glass-reinforced polymer, so it shrugs off weather and rough handling without warping or losing zero. The stock also converts ADL, BDL, and DM rifles over to a double-column detachable magazine with a rear paddle release, and a 10-round .308 magazine comes included so you're ready to shoot out of the box.
