Description

Building or refreshing an AR-15 lower? This kit from ALG Defense, the sister company to Geissele, packs all the small internals you need to finish a stripped lower receiver, and then sweetens the deal with their Advanced Combat Trigger (ACT) instead of a plain mil-spec unit.

The ACT is the real reason to grab this kit over a basic LPK. ALG didn't redesign the wheel here. They took a proven mil-spec trigger, kept the same sear geometry for reliability, then polished the sear surfaces and treated the parts with their HardLubing process. The trigger itself is nickel-boron plated for hardness and corrosion resistance, while the hammer, disconnector, and pins get a nickel-Teflon coating that drops friction and smooths things out. The result is a single-stage pull that ditches the gritty, stagey feel of a stock trigger and breaks clean. Folks who run them tend to describe the difference as night and day, and more than a few call it the best value trigger they own.

What Sits in the Lower

Beyond the trigger group, you get every pin, spring, and detent needed to assemble a complete lower. That covers the bolt catch and its plunger, spring, and roll pin, the mag release assembly, safety selector with detent and spring, buffer retainer and spring, trigger guard with roll pin, and the takedown and pivot pins with their detents and springs. The one thing it skips is a pistol grip, so plan to source that separately.

Two Springs, Your Call

The ACT ships with two hammer springs. The full-power spring lands the pull around 6 pounds and gives you positive ignition across all ammo, which is what most people run and forget about. The lighter purple reduced-power spring drops it closer to 4.5 pounds for a cleaner feel, better suited to range and target work. Worth noting the lighter spring can cause light primer strikes on hard-primered ammo, so stick with the full-power spring for any defensive or duty role.

This is a great pick for first-time builders and anyone who wants a meaningful trigger bump without stepping up to a pricey match unit.

Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the ACT trigger different from a standard mil-spec trigger?

The ACT keeps the same proven mil-spec sear geometry but polishes the sear surfaces and adds ALG's nickel-boron and nickel-Teflon coatings. That removes the gritty, stagey feel of a stock trigger and gives you a smoother, sharper break. You get the reliability of mil-spec with a noticeably better pull.

Does this kit include a pistol grip?

No. This version of the kit comes complete with all the lower internals and the ACT trigger, but it ships less the grip. You'll want to pick up a pistol grip separately to finish your lower.

Why are there two hammer springs in the box?

ALG includes a full-power spring and a lighter purple reduced-power spring so you can tune the pull. The full-power spring gives you about a 6-pound pull and reliable ignition with any ammo, while the purple spring drops it closer to 4.5 pounds for a cleaner range feel. Just know the lighter spring can cause light primer strikes on hard primers, so run the full-power spring for defensive use.

Will this fit any mil-spec AR-15 lower?

Yes. It's built to mil-spec dimensions and works in standard AR-15/M4 lower receivers from common manufacturers. Installation follows the same steps as a standard lower parts kit, so any armorer or experienced builder will be right at home.

Is the ACT hard to install for a first-time builder?

Not at all. Because the sear geometry and assembly are unchanged from a standard trigger, install is the same as any mil-spec setup, and ALG even includes a slave pin to help line things up. Plenty of first-timers knock out the whole lower in well under an hour.

How does the ACT compare to a premium trigger like a Geissele?

The ACT isn't a match-grade trigger and won't give you that ultra-light competition break, but it's a big jump over stock for a fraction of the cost of a premium unit. It's widely considered one of the best value trigger upgrades in the AR world. For most builds and duty-style use, it hits a sweet spot.
