Description

Most adjustable gas blocks fight you over time. They restrict gas with the same screw you tune, and after a few hundred rounds that screw fouls up, corrodes, and loses its clicks. Superlative Arms took a different route with the Bleed Off system. Instead of holding gas back, it vents the excess forward and out of the block, using only the pressure needed to cycle your bolt. The result is a rifle that runs cooler and cleaner, with noticeably less felt recoil and blowback to the face.

What Makes the Superlative Arms Bleed Off Block Different

The adjustment screw here doesn't restrict gas flow at all, which is the whole trick. Because it isn't sitting in the path of hot carbon, it won't erode or seize, and you won't lose your detent settings down the road. The locking detent lives on the outside of the block where fouling can't reach it, and there's a built-in stop so you can't accidentally back the screw all the way out. You get a generous range of click-adjustable positions to dial in whatever ammo, buffer, and suppressor combo you're running.

Fitment and Build on the .875" Clamp On

This one is machined from 416 stainless steel with a black Melonite finish for corrosion and wear resistance, sized for a .875" barrel journal. The clamp-on design is a favorite for a reason: no dimpling or pinning required, and a lot of builders feel it treats barrel harmonics a little kinder than a set screw block. It fits AR-15, AR-10, and LR-308 direct impingement builds, and it shines on short barrels and suppressed setups where taming excess gas really matters.

Installation is straightforward if you've built an upper before. You slip it on, align it with the gas tube, snug the clamp screws with the provided Torx wrench, and torque to around 30 inch pounds. Tuning is done at the range by starting closed and backing the screw out click by click until the rifle cycles the way you want. Once it's set, it stays set.

Frequently Asked Questions

How is the Bleed Off design different from a normal adjustable gas block?

Conventional adjustable blocks tune your rifle by restricting gas flow with the adjustment screw, which puts that screw right in the carbon's path where it can foul and seize. The Superlative Arms block instead vents excess gas forward and out of the block, using only what's needed to cycle the bolt. Because the adjustment screw isn't choking the flow, it stays clean and keeps its detent settings over the long haul.

Will this .875" clamp on gas block work with a suppressor or short barrel?

Yes, and that's where it really earns its keep. Suppressors and short barrels tend to overgas an AR and push a lot of blowback toward your face. Bleeding the extra pressure forward cuts that gas back and keeps the rifle running cooler and cleaner, which makes for a much more pleasant suppressed or SBR setup.

Do I need to dimple or pin my barrel to install it?

No. The clamp-on design wraps around a .875" barrel journal and secures with clamp screws, so there's no drilling, dimpling, or pinning required. You align it with the gas tube, snug the clamp screws with the included Torx wrench, and torque to no more than 30 inch pounds. Many builders also like that clamp-on blocks tend to be a bit friendlier to barrel harmonics.

How do I tune the gas block once it's installed?

Tuning happens at the range with the handguard off. Start with the screw fully closed, then back it out click by click, firing a round or two at each stage until the rifle reliably cycles and locks back on an empty magazine. Once you find that setting, the external locking detent holds it in place so it won't drift on you.
