This Apex Tactical Thread Protector screws right onto any 1/2×28 right-hand threaded 9mm barrel and keeps things clean, capped, and ready to go the next time you want to run a can or comp.
What sets this one apart from a lot of the cheap aluminum caps floating around is the build. Apex machines these from stainless steel and finishes the black version in Melonite, the same coating used on their Apex Grade barrels, so it holds up to holster wear and pocket lint a lot better than a soft anodized finish. The offset pentagon pattern on the exterior isn't just for looks either, it gives you enough purchase to snug it down or back it off by hand without needing a wrench or chewing up the finish with pliers.
Inside the protector is a captured rubber O-ring that stays put in the body even after you take the protector off, which is a small detail but a genuinely useful one. That O-ring seats against the crown and keeps the protector from backing itself loose from vibration during a range day, so you're not finding it rattling around loose in your bag or missing altogether after a few hundred rounds.
This is the exact same thread protector Apex includes on their own Apex Grade threaded barrels, so if you ever misplace the one that came with your barrel or picked up a threaded barrel from another maker that didn't include one, this is a straightforward drop-in replacement. Just keep in mind it's built for standard 1/2-28 right-hand threads, so it won't thread onto metric or left-hand cut barrels.
It's built to fit any standard 1/2-28 right-hand threaded 9mm barrel, not just Apex's own barrels. It's actually the same protector that ships on Apex Grade threaded barrels, so it works as a solid replacement if you lost yours or bought an aftermarket barrel without one. It won't work on metric or left-hand threaded barrels though, so double check your thread spec before ordering.
The captured O-ring seats against the muzzle crown and helps keep the protector from vibrating loose during normal handling or a day at the range. It's held in place inside the protector body so it won't fall out or get lost even after you remove it from the barrel.
No tools needed. The offset pentagon exterior gives you enough grip to thread it on and snug it down by hand, and the same goes for removing it when you're ready to mount a suppressor or compensator.
