This Apex kit tackles that head on by pairing the aluminum Action Enhancement Trigger with the Duty/Carry internals, so you get a better feel and better mechanics working together rather than just cosmetics.
The solid aluminum trigger body replaces the factory hinged trigger with a smooth face and a center-mounted pivoting safety that keeps the factory safety values intact. On the feel side, it trims pre-travel and over-travel by roughly 20 percent, which cleans up that spongy take-up and gives you a more positive, detectable reset for faster, more controlled follow-up shots.
The Duty/Carry side of this kit is tuned to land in the 5.0 to 5.5 lb range, dropping the pull by about 2 pounds off factory. That's a sweet spot a lot of carry folks aim for: light enough to feel crisp and deliberate, but still weighted for an everyday carry or duty gun. The fully machined sear, sear spring, trigger return spring, and Ultimate Striker Block all work as a system to smooth things out from the moment you touch the trigger to the break.
This kit is made specifically for the Smith & Wesson M&P Shield 45 and Shield 45 M2.0 in .45 caliber. It is not made for the 9mm or .40 Shield, the Shield 2.0 in 9/40, the Shield EZ, or the Bodyguard, so double-check your model before ordering. It's a drop-in design that a mechanically comfortable owner can handle at home with the included tool, though plenty of people still like to have an armorer or gunsmith do the install and function check. Yes, it's a drop-in design and comes with the Apex sight tool and a slave pin to help with the trigger return spring. Anyone comfortable detail-stripping their Shield can usually handle it with some patience and good instructions. If you'd rather not tackle it, having an armorer or gunsmith do the install and function check is a solid call.
Apex has been transitioning the sear in this kit from the 2-dot version to the #2 sear. Both are designed to function correctly in the Shield 45 kit, so either one is normal and nothing to worry about. Just install the sear that comes in your box per the instructions.
