Apex Tactical has been producing quality trigger and accessory upgrades for FN pistols for years, and this magazine extension is a great example of how they approach things: solve the problem the right way, or don't bother. The FNX-45 ships from the factory with a 15-round magazine in .45 ACP, which is already pretty respectable. But if you want a little more on tap for competition, range use, or just peace of mind, this base pad extension is the cleanest way to get there.
The extension is sized to add two rounds of usable capacity while still leaving enough room in the mag body for the spring to fully compress. That extra space is the key detail here. Without it, you'd be fighting to seat a fully loaded mag with the slide forward, which nobody wants. Apex built this with that in mind, so your topped-off magazine drops in and locks up just like normal.
It's machined from aluminum and finished in a Black Type III hardcoat anodize, so it's not going to scratch up easy or corrode sitting in a range bag. Finger grooves around the perimeter and front corners give you something to grab onto during mag changes, and machined notches on the bottom face let you mark individual mags for easy tracking. A single set screw holds everything in place and makes it straightforward to take apart when needed. The included .050" L-key Allen wrench means you've got everything you need right in the box.
Slide lock still functions after the last round fires, which is a detail that matters and one that cheaper extensions sometimes get wrong. Compatible with both the FNX-45 Standard and FNX-45 Tactical.
Yes, the Apex 119-102 is compatible with both the FNX-45 Standard and the FNX-45 Tactical. Just make sure you're running standard FNX-45 magazines, as those are what this extension is designed to fit.
Apex engineered the extension with a little extra internal length beyond what two rounds actually occupy. That extra space allows the magazine spring to compress fully, so you can seat a topped-off magazine with the slide already closed. The usable capacity gain is two rounds, but the physical extension is sized for 2.5 to make sure everything functions correctly.
Yes, Apex specifically designed this extension to maintain proper slide lock function. The geometry of the base pad doesn't interfere with the magazine follower's ability to trip the slide stop after the final round is fired.
No gunsmithing required. The extension installs on your existing FNX-45 magazine using a single set screw, and a .050" L-key Allen wrench is included in the package so you have everything you need right out of the box.
