AmeriGlo took what it learned building sights for U.S. Federal Government contract work and put it into the Trooper series, and this set drops right onto your Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 or C.O.R.E. slide. You get a classic three-dot layout that gives you a clean, repeatable sight picture whether you're at the range in bright sun or checking a noise in the dark. The front is AmeriGlo's ProGlo design with a green tritium lamp wrapped in a bright orange ring, so your eye finds it quick and stays there.
The magic of a good defensive sight is front sight focus, and this set is built around that idea. The rear is a serrated, subdued square notch with green tritium and a blacked-out surround, which keeps it from competing with the front dot for your attention. In daylight that orange front ring pops against the darker rear, and at night the three tritium lamps line up without eye fatigue from three equally bright dots. It's a setup that rewards you with faster, more consistent shot placement.
These are steel-bodied sights with a wear-resistant matte black finish, so they shrug off holster wear and hard use. The serrated rear also gives you a solid edge to rack the slide one-handed off a belt or boot if you ever need to. Tritium is self-powered and needs no charging, glowing on its own for years of duty and carry.
This SW-817 set is cut for the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 CORE dovetail, covering optics-ready and standard 2.0 pistols in that pattern. A dovetail sight change goes smoothest with a sight pusher, and having a gunsmith or someone with the right tool set them is the easy route if you'd rather not fuss with it. Once they're on, maintenance is basically nothing beyond a wipe with a cloth.
This set is cut for the Smith & Wesson M&P 2.0 CORE dovetail, which covers standard and optics-ready M&P 2.0 and C.O.R.E. models sharing that pattern. It does not fit the M&P Shield, EZ, .22, .380, or Pro variants, which use different sight cuts. If you're unsure which cut your slide has, check your exact model before ordering.
Tritium glows on its own without needing a light source to charge it, and it stays useful for roughly 10 to 12 years before it noticeably dims. The gas gradually decays over time, so the glow fades slowly rather than switching off. Most folks simply replace the set down the road when they want fresh brightness or a new configuration.
These are dovetail sights, so they press into the slide cuts rather than screwing in. A sight pusher tool makes the job clean and precise, and many owners have a gunsmith or a buddy with the right tool handle the swap. Take care not to strike the tritium vials directly during install.
The orange ring on the ProGlo front makes it jump out fast in daylight, drawing your eye straight to it. The rear is a subdued, serrated square notch that stays out of the way so you keep your focus on the front sight, which is the key to accurate defensive shooting. At night, all three tritium lamps line up for a clear sight picture in the dark.
