There is something about a 28 gauge over/under that just feels right in the hands, and the ATI Cavalry SX nails that feeling without the price tag you would expect. Built by KOFS in Turkey and imported by American Tactical, this break action pairs a laser engraved 7075 aluminum receiver with blued 4140 chrome moly steel barrels and a genuine oil-finished Turkish walnut stock and forend. The whole package tips the scale at just over 6 pounds, which is exactly what you want when you are covering miles behind a bird dog or spending an afternoon on the skeet field.
The 28 gauge has a loyal following for good reason. Recoil is mild, patterns are surprisingly effective on quail, dove, and clays, and a light gun chambered for it becomes an absolute joy to carry. The Cavalry SX runs 26 inch vent rib barrels with a brass bead up front, a single selective trigger so you can pick which barrel fires first, and a top tang safety that doubles as the barrel selector. This SV model uses extractors, which lift your spent hulls for easy removal by hand. Plenty of upland hunters prefer that setup since it keeps empties out of the grass and in your pocket.
Five interchangeable Mobil pattern choke tubes come in the box, so you can go tight for late season birds or open things up for close flushing quail and skeet work. Stock dimensions run a 14.23 inch length of pull with 1.45 inches of drop at the comb and 2.2 inches at the heel, which are comfortable field gun numbers that fit a wide range of builds.

For a first over/under, a dedicated dove gun, or a lightweight upland companion, the Cavalry SX is a tough combination to beat.
This SV version uses extractors, which raise the spent shells partway out of the chambers when you break the action open so you can pluck them out by hand. The SVE version has automatic ejectors that kick fired hulls clear of the gun. Many upland hunters like extractors because empties stay in your control instead of landing in the field.
It ships with five interchangeable Mobil pattern choke tubes covering the full range from open to tight constrictions. That spread lets you set the gun up for skeet and close flushing birds or tighten up for longer shots on dove and late season upland game. Swapping tubes takes just a minute with a choke wrench.
It comes in at just over 6 pounds thanks to the 7075 aluminum receiver, which makes it a genuinely easy gun to carry all day. The 26 inch barrels keep it quick to the shoulder and lively on crossing birds. Combined with the soft recoil of the 28 gauge, it is a comfortable gun for long range sessions and new wingshooters alike.
