Description

Elftmann Tactical took a hard look at the old rotating safety lever and decided to do away with it entirely. Instead of a lever you flip up or down, the Ambi Speed Safety is a cross-bolt push button that slides side to side. Push it one way and a red ring shows for fire, push it back and the red disappears when you're on safe. If you've ever run a shotgun or a lever gun with a cross-bolt safety, it'll feel instantly familiar the moment you pick it up.

Why the Ambi Speed Safety Earns Its Name

The whole point here is speed and staying locked into your grip. With a standard selector, moving the lever usually means shifting your thumb or letting your palm come off the grip a little, and that costs you time. This push button design lets a right handed user just extend the thumb slightly to knock it into fire, then index the trigger finger a touch higher to push it back to safe. Nothing about your firing hand has to move off the gun. For 3-gun and action shooting where fractions of a second matter, that's a real edge.

Built Tough and Truly Ambidextrous

Elftmann precision machines the Speed Safety from hardened stainless steel with a black oxide finish, so it holds up to hard use and weighs next to nothing at roughly 0.4 ounces. Because the button pokes out one side or the other, you get a clear visual and tactile check on which position you're in, plus a positive click coming off safe. Left handed folks who've fought with the AR's factory safety placement finally get an even playing field here.

Getting Your Ambi Speed Safety Installed

Installation is about as simple as AR upgrades get. Pull the grip, swap out your old selector and detent, drop in the ELF safety with the included longer detent, and reuse your existing selector spring and grip. There are no tiny set screws or extra hardware to fuss with. It's built for standard mil-spec receivers and works best in a true mil-spec lower. Keep in mind it's designed for standard single-stage and two-stage triggers, not binary or three-position setups.

Frequently Asked Questions

How does the Ambi Speed Safety work compared to a standard AR selector?

Instead of rotating a lever up or down, you push a button that slides side to side between safe and fire. A red ring shows when it's set to fire and disappears when you're on safe. The big benefit is you never have to break your grip to change positions, which is why it's popular with action and competition shooters.

Is the Elftmann Speed Safety hard to install?

Not at all. You remove the grip, swap out your old selector and detent for the Elftmann safety and its included longer detent, then reuse your existing selector spring and reinstall the grip. There are no extra screws or Allen keys involved, and it's one of the simpler AR upgrades you can do at the bench. Always function test the rifle afterward to confirm everything works with your specific lower and trigger.

Will the Ambi Speed Safety work with any trigger?

It's built for standard single-stage and two-stage AR triggers in mil-spec receivers. Due to the detent cutouts, it will not work with binary or three-position triggers, and it isn't compatible with the Hiperfire Genesis. If you're running a common drop-in or standard trigger, you're good to go.

Is the Speed Safety a good option for left handed shooters?

Yes, and that's one of its strongest selling points. Because it's fully ambidextrous with no protruding levers, southpaws finally get the same easy access right handed users have always had. It solves the classic AR problem of the safety sitting on the wrong side for lefties.
