Description

Most ambi rifles bolt a few extra levers onto a standard receiver and call it a day. American Defense went further with the UIC MOD2, machining a billet upper and lower from scratch around their patented control layout. There's a bolt catch and release lever on the right side, a magazine release on the left, and a Talon ambidextrous safety, so every core function of the rifle works identically no matter which shoulder it's on. The design keeps your firing hand on the grip through mag changes and bolt work, which is the whole point. Lefties get a rifle that finally works with them, and right-handed folks pick up faster manipulations they didn't know they were missing.

A Criterion Barrel Does the Heavy Lifting

The 14.5 inch barrel is a hand-lapped Criterion in 4150 CMV with a nitride finish, chambered in .223 Wylde with a 1:8 twist. That chamber handles both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO while giving up nothing in accuracy, and the twist rate stabilizes everything from 55 grain plinking loads up through 77 grain match ammo. A Surefire Warcomp is pinned and welded up front to bring the package to 16 inches overall, and it doubles as a mount for Surefire suppressors down the road. Owners regularly report sub-MOA groups with match ammunition and thousands of trouble-free rounds.

UIC MOD2 Parts You Won't Need to Swap

ADM skipped the usual budget filler. You get a Geissele G2S two-stage trigger, a Radian Raptor ambidextrous charging handle, a nitride QPQ bolt carrier group, and Magpul MOE furniture with an MOE SL stock on ADM's own 10-position buffer tube with their HD buffer. A tension adjustment screw snugs up the fit between the billet receivers, the flared mag well speeds up reloads, and the M-LOK handguard leaves plenty of room for lights and accessories.

Where the UIC MOD2 Fits

At 6 pounds 9 ounces unloaded, this carbine is light enough for a long day of carbine work and balanced enough for precision on demand. It's a do-it-all rifle built in the USA, and it ships ready to run without a single upgrade on the list.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the barrel on the UIC MOD2 really 14.5 inches?

Yes, it's a 14.5 inch hand-lapped Criterion barrel with the Surefire Warcomp permanently pinned and welded to the muzzle, which brings the overall length to 16 inches. You get the quicker handling of the shorter barrel in a standard rifle configuration. There's nothing extra to do on your end.

What ammo can I run through the .223 Wylde chamber?

Both .223 Remington and 5.56 NATO feed and fire safely in a .223 Wylde chamber. The Wylde spec splits the difference between the two, so you get 5.56 pressure tolerance with tighter, match-grade accuracy. The 1:8 twist handles bullet weights from 55 to 77 grains well.

How is the UIC MOD2 different from ambi rifles that just add levers?

The billet upper and lower are machined from the ground up around ADM's patented ambidextrous layout rather than retrofitted. That means a right-side bolt catch and release, a left-side magazine release, and an ambi safety, all reachable without breaking your grip. It works the same from either shoulder, which matters for lefties and for anyone training support-side.

Does the American Defense UIC MOD2 need any upgrades out of the box?

Not really, and that's a big part of the appeal. The Geissele G2S trigger, Radian Raptor charging handle, nitride BCG, and Magpul furniture are the parts people typically buy to replace stock components on other rifles. Add an optic and a sling and it's ready for duty use, home defense, or range days.
