The brass laser module chambers into a .223 or 5.56 rifle just like a live round, then throws a red laser dot downrange that lines up with your bore axis. You dial your reticle onto the dot, pull the module, and you show up to the range already on paper.
The process is about as simple as it gets. Lock the bolt back or pull it, seat the brass module in the chamber, and align your scope, red dot, or iron sights to the projected dot at around 20 yards. From there you head out for final adjustments at whatever distance you want your true zero. It runs a 650nm red laser rated out to roughly 100 yards, which is plenty for the close-range alignment work bore sighting is meant for. Just remember it gets you close and gets you started, so live fire still finalizes the zero.

It runs on internal button cell batteries for quick jobs, but the included external battery pack takes two AAA batteries and stretches run time past 20 hours. The pack even has a magnet on the side to hang onto your receiver while you work. This same .223 laser is the heart of the entire Aimshot arbor system, so by adding hollow arbors you can bore sight everything from .243 and .308 to shotguns and beyond using one laser. The laser module itself chambers directly in .223 Remington and 5.56 rifles. It also serves as the base of the Aimshot arbor system, so with the right hollow arbor slipped over the laser you can bore sight most common rifle calibers like .243, .308, and many others, plus some shotgun gauges. One laser plus arbors covers a lot of ground without buying a separate tool for every chamber.

No, and that is by design. A bore sight gets your optic roughly aligned with the bore so your first shots land on paper instead of who knows where. You still need to confirm and fine-tune your true zero with live fire at your desired distance, but the MBS223 saves you plenty of ammo getting there.
