Getting glass on an AK has always been the tricky part, and that is exactly the headache the Aim Sports MK007 solves. It clamps onto the factory side plate found on most AK receivers and gives you two Picatinny rails to work with: a top rail sitting right over the bore for your optic, and a second rail along the side for a light, laser, or whatever else you want to run. Both rails are cut to standard 1913 spec, so anything Picatinny or Weaver drops right on.
The whole thing is machined from aircraft-grade aluminum with a black anodized finish, so it stays light on the rifle and holds up to real range time without adding a bunch of bulk. At 5.25 inches, the top rail gives you plenty of slot options to dial in eye relief on a scope or find the right spot for a red dot. The side rail is a nice touch that a lot of single-purpose mounts skip, letting you build out an integrated setup instead of choosing between an optic and a light.
Here is the one thing to check before you buy: your AK needs to already have a side mounting plate on the receiver. Most AK-47, AKM, and AK-74 pattern rifles came with one from the factory, and folks have had good luck fitting this to Romanian, Russian, and other common variants. If your gun has that side plate, installation is straightforward. You line up the mount with the plate, lock it down, and snug up the hardware. No gunsmithing, no permanent changes to the rifle.
One note worth passing along: this mount does not use a quick-detach lever, so it is meant to be installed and left on rather than pulled off between range trips. For a solid, budget-friendly way to get optics and accessories onto a side-plate AK, the MK007 covers a lot of ground.
The MK007 works on most AK-pattern rifles that already have a side mounting plate on the receiver, including many AK-47, AKM, and AK-74 variants. If your rifle has that factory side plate, this mount will clamp right onto it. Rifles without a side plate will not accept this mount.
