Alpha Foxtrot built the Romulus around a simple idea: take everything people love about the 1911 platform and bring it fully into the modern era. The result is a double-stack, hammer-fired 9mm that keeps the crisp single-action trigger and intuitive ergonomics of a traditional 1911, but adds the capacity, optics compatibility, and recoil management that today's shooting demands.
The frame and slide are machined from SUS416 stainless steel and finished in a polished black Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating. DLC is exceptionally hard and slick, which means this pistol is going to hold up to serious round counts and carry wear without looking beat up after a few months. The 3.5" barrel is bull-ramped, threaded, and fitted with a pressed compensator that actively reduces muzzle rise. Combined with the comp, the 1:10 right-hand twist rifling and match-grade construction give you repeatable accuracy in a gun that's genuinely pleasant to run fast.
Ergonomics on the Romulus are well thought out. The injected polymer grip module is textured for control, and it's paired with an extended beavertail, flared magwell, and extended slide release, so everything from the grip to reload speed gets a practical upgrade. Night Fision front sights keep you on target when the light gets low, and the ambidextrous thumb safety means left- and right-handed shooters both get a clean setup.
The slide comes cut for an RMSc footprint out of the box, and the package includes both an RMSC plate and an RMR adapter plate along with a MOS adapter, so you have real flexibility in which red dot you choose to run. An integrated Picatinny rail lets you mount a light or laser without any additional modification. Two 10-round double-stack magazines are included.

This version of the Romulus comes with both an RMSC plate pre-installed and an RMR adapter plate included in the box, giving you compatibility with the most popular micro red dot footprints on the market. Optics using the RMSc footprint mount directly, while the included MOS adapter plate opens things up to RMR-footprint optics. Just make sure to use proper torque and threadlocker during installation to keep your optic holding zero.
The compensator on this model is a pressed-on comp integrated with the bull-ramped barrel assembly, so it's not designed to be swapped in and out like a threaded muzzle device. The barrel itself is threaded under the comp, but the pressed compensator is part of what makes this setup so compact while still delivering meaningful recoil and muzzle rise reduction.
The Romulus uses an injected polymer grip module to accommodate the double-stack magazine, which does make the grip slightly wider than a traditional single-stack 1911. That said, Alpha Foxtrot designed the module with ergonomics in mind, and the extended beavertail and grip texture keep it comfortable and controllable. People with medium to larger hands typically find the fit natural; those with smaller hands may want to handle one before committing.
The Romulus platform is built around a double-stack magazine that Alpha Foxtrot offers in multiple capacities across their lineup. While this specific model ships with two 10-round magazines, the pistol's double-stack architecture is compatible with higher-capacity Romulus magazines where permitted. Always verify magazine compatibility with the manufacturer before purchasing aftermarket options.
Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) is a physical vapor deposition coating that sits at the top end of firearm finish technology. It's significantly harder than traditional nitride or cerakote finishes, extremely corrosion resistant, and has a natural low-friction quality that actually helps the action run smoothly. On a stainless steel pistol like the Romulus, the polished black DLC also gives it a distinct, premium look that holds up in the field.
The Romulus Compact is sized for real-world carry with its 3.5" barrel and 7.25" overall length, which puts it in a similar footprint to other compact double-stack pistols. The compensator does add a bit of bulk at the muzzle end compared to a bare barrel, so holster selection matters. Given its all-steel build and 38 oz. weight, it carries best in a good leather or Kydex IWB rig, and it's the kind of gun that rewards experienced carriers who want a high-performance setup over an ultralight option.
