Getting the recoil system sorted on an AR10 build usually means chasing down a handful of small parts that all have to work together. ATI took the guesswork out of it with this complete buffer tube assembly. Everything to mount a mil-spec stock to your stripped or DPMS-pattern .308 lower is here in one package, so you can go from bare receiver to functional recoil system without a scavenger hunt through parts bins.
The receiver extension is a six-position mil-spec tube machined from 6061-T6 aluminum and finished in Military Type III hard anodize, which is the tough, corrosion-resistant coating you want on a part that sees heat and cycling. The mil-spec diameter means it plays nice with the huge range of adjustable carbine stocks built to that standard, so whatever collapsible stock you already have your eye on will most likely slide right on. This is an AR10 spec kit, so the buffer and spring inside are tuned for the .308 platform rather than a standard AR15.
Along with the tube you get an AR10 carbine buffer, a buffer spring, a steel castle nut, and a receiver end plate. That covers the full lower recoil system in a single box. The hardware is the military-grade steel you'd expect at this level, and the whole thing is made in the USA and backed by ATI's limited lifetime warranty to the original owner.
Installation is straightforward for anyone who's done a lower before. Thread the tube through the end plate and castle nut into the receiver, seat the takedown detent and spring, drop in the buffer spring and buffer, and torque the castle nut down. ATI also publishes a step-by-step guide if you want a reference while you work. For a builder refreshing a tired rifle or standing up a fresh .308, it's a clean, no-fuss way to knock out one of the core systems on the gun.
This is a mil-spec diameter six-position tube, so it works with the wide range of adjustable carbine stocks built to mil-spec dimensions. That covers most of the common collapsible stocks on the market, from basic M4-style options to popular upgrades like the Magpul CTR. If a stock is listed as mil-spec fit, it should slide right onto this tube.
This assembly is spec'd for the AR10 and .308 platform. The buffer and spring inside are tuned for the heavier .308 bolt carrier, so it's not the right kit for a standard 5.56 AR15 build. If you're working on an AR15, you'll want ATI's AR15 version instead.
It includes the buffer tube, buffer, buffer spring, castle nut, and receiver end plate, which is the full lower recoil system. You'll still need the takedown detent, detent spring, and stock itself if they aren't already on your build. Basic tools like an armorer's wrench make torquing the castle nut easier.
