The 8.6 Blackout was cooked up by Q as a big-bore answer to 300 BLK, and Faxon partnered with them right from the start to build barrels for it. This 12-inch RemAge style barrel is the sweet spot for the cartridge: short enough to stay handy with a can hanging off the end, but long enough to wring real performance out of both heavy subsonic loads and lighter supersonic stuff. The Modified Light Palma profile keeps weight reasonable at about 1.6 pounds without going pencil-thin, so you get a balanced setup that handles well on a bolt gun.
That blazing 1:3 twist rate is the whole point of the round. The 8.6 BLK runs long, heavy projectiles, and a slow twist would leave them tumbling. The fast twist stabilizes those big bullets and channels rotational energy into the target, which is a big reason folks see solid terminal performance and tight groups even from a short tube. Real-world use backs it up, with owners reporting sub-MOA three-shot groups at 100 yards out of short-barreled setups.
The RemAge design is what makes this barrel friendly for a home build. Instead of needing a lathe to set headspace, the included barrel nut lets you dial it in and torque it down using a standard AR-15 castle nut wrench. It drops onto a factory Remington 700 footprint, and barrels made from January 2024 forward also fit the Faxon FX7 action. The muzzle is threaded M18x1.5 with a tapered shoulder, so it's ready for a suppressor right out of the wrap, and a taper adapter comes along for the ride.
Every Faxon barrel is machined from raw bar stock at their Cincinnati facility, then fully stress-relieved, air-gauge tested, magnetic particle inspected, and finished with an 11-degree target crown. The 416-R stainless core gets QPQ salt bath nitride inside and out for corrosion resistance and easy cleanup, and it's backed by Faxon's lifetime guarantee.
It's built for the Remington 700 footprint using the RemAge barrel nut system, so it works with factory R700 actions and similar clones. Barrels produced from January 2024 forward are also compatible with the Faxon FX7 bolt action. If you're building on a 700-pattern action, you're in good shape.
No lathe or gunsmith required, which is the beauty of the RemAge design. The included barrel nut sets headspace and torques into spec with a standard AR-15 castle nut wrench and a set of go/no-go gauges. It's a very doable job for anyone comfortable working on their own rifles.
