The 6mm Dasher has quietly taken over the top of the leaderboard in Precision Rifle Series competition, and a big part of that is because barrels like this one exist. This Proof Research pre-fit comes chambered and threaded from the factory, so once it's torqued onto a compatible Impact Precision 737 short action and checked for headspace, it's ready to shoot. No trips to the gunsmith, no waiting weeks for a custom build. Just bolt it on and start working up loads.
Under the finish is 416R stainless steel that's been double stress-relieved before it ever sees a rifling button. Proof cuts these blanks in-house using the same process they built their carbon fiber barrels around, which means every bore gets single-point cut rifling and a hand lap before it leaves the shop. That kind of attention shows up on paper. The 1:7.5 twist is the sweet spot for stabilizing the long, heavy-for-caliber 105 to 115 grain bullets that Dasher shooters rely on to buck wind at distance, and the 26 inch length gives you enough barrel time to wring out real velocity without turning the rifle into a broomstick.
Competition contour strikes a balance most PRS and long-range shooters appreciate. It's heavier than a sporter profile so it resists heat-induced stringing during a long string of fire, but it's not so bulky that it makes the rifle a chore to carry between stages. Combined with 416R's known corrosion resistance and its ability to hold tight tolerances under heat treatment, this is a barrel built to stay consistent match after match, not just look good on the first box of ammo.
The Dasher earns its reputation by squeezing more case capacity out of the 6mm BR, which nets a real velocity bump without giving up the inherent accuracy that made the BR family famous in the first place. A quality bore is what lets that extra case capacity actually translate into smaller groups instead of just more recoil, and that's exactly the job this barrel is built for.
Because this is a shouldered pre-fit, headspacing is guaranteed straight from Proof, though keep in mind the timing of the barrel markings relative to your stock line can vary slightly from action to action. It's a normal part of pre-fit barrels and doesn't affect function or accuracy at all.
Since this is a shouldered pre-fit that arrives already chambered and threaded, most shooters can install it themselves with basic action wrenches. You'll still want to check headspace with proper gauges after torquing it down, just to confirm everything is seated correctly before you send rounds downrange.
This particular pre-fit is built specifically for the Impact Precision 737 short action, so it won't drop into just any receiver. If you're running a different action, look for the Proof Dasher barrel made for that specific platform since the shoulder and thread specs vary between manufacturers.
The 6mm Dasher is typically loaded with heavier, high-BC bullets in the 105 to 115 grain range to take advantage of its efficiency downrange, and those longer bullets need a faster twist to stabilize properly. A 1:7.5 twist gives you the flexibility to run that full weight range without worrying about marginal stabilization.
Barrel life on a 6mm Dasher typically runs in the 2,500 to 3,000 round range before accuracy starts to fall off, which is pretty normal for a cartridge running these velocities. Proper cleaning and not letting the barrel get excessively hot during long strings will help you get the most life out of it.
