Description

A baffle strike is one of the most expensive mistakes you can make with a suppressed rifle, and the frustrating part is that it's almost always preventable. Geissele built the Suppressor Alignment Gage, or SAG, for exactly that reason. This 6.8mm version slides down the bore of your .277 caliber barrel and extends out through the mounted suppressor, giving you a direct visual check of how the can lines up with the bore before you ever send a round through it.

Why the Geissele SAG Earns a Spot in Your Range Bag

Here's the thing most people underestimate: a suppressor is a lot longer than the threaded interface holding it on. A tiny error at the muzzle threads or mount gets magnified over the full length of the can, and those small deviations can stack on top of each other. What looks fine at the shoulder can put your endcap hole noticeably off center. The SAG makes that error visible. If the rod is centered in the exit hole, you're good. If it's kissing a baffle or riding to one side, you just saved yourself a can.

Precision You Can Trust from a 6.8mm Alignment Gage

Geissele grinds this gage from hardened steel to 0.002 inch under nominal bore diameter, which testing has shown is the sweet spot for fitting the widest range of real-world barrels. The outside diameter is finely finished and held straight to within 0.001 inch over its full length, and the long body is what actually indexes the gage to the bore, so you don't need a piston-tight fit to get an accurate read. The hardening matters too. Powder residue is abrasive, and a soft rod would wear, pick up embedded grit, or pull burrs if it dragged across a misaligned baffle. This one shrugs all of that off.

Put the 6.8 SAG to Work

Check alignment when you install a new muzzle device, mount a can on a fresh barrel, or swap suppressors between rifles. It takes about a minute, and it's a whole lot cheaper than shipping a baffle-struck suppressor back for repair. Simple tool, real peace of mind.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I use the Geissele 6.8mm Suppressor Alignment Gage?

With an unloaded firearm and the suppressor mounted, slide the gage down the bore from the chamber end until it extends out through the suppressor's endcap. Then look at where the rod sits in the exit hole. If it's centered and never contacted a baffle on the way through, your alignment is good. If it drags, touches a baffle, or sits off center at the endcap, don't shoot that setup until you sort out the mount or muzzle device.

Why is the gage 0.002 inch under bore diameter instead of an exact fit?

Barrel bores vary a bit in diameter and straightness from one barrel to the next, and Geissele found that 0.002 inch under nominal is the size that fits the widest range of barrels while still giving an accurate read. The long length of the rod is what aligns it to the bore, so a super tight fit isn't necessary. You get reliable results without fighting to get the gage in and out.

Will this 6.8mm SAG work with my caliber?

This version is sized for .277 caliber bores, so it covers cartridges like 6.8 SPC, 270 Winchester, and 6.8 Western. If you're running a different bore size, Geissele makes the SAG in a full range of diameters from 5.45mm up through .50 caliber, so grab the one matched to your barrel. Using the correct size is what makes the reading trustworthy.

Can the gage get damaged if my suppressor is misaligned?

That's exactly why Geissele hardens it. The steel resists wear from abrasive powder residue, won't pull burrs if it slides against a misaligned baffle, and won't let grit embed into its surface. It's built to be a long-term shop tool, not a one-time-use rod.
