The Ballistic Advantage 6.5 Grendel 16" SPR Fluted Midlength barrel is one of those parts that quietly does the heavy lifting in a good build. It is machined from hardened 416R stainless steel with a bead blasted finish, which is the same material and treatment you see on match-grade barrels. The bead blast gives it a low-glare look that doesn't shine in the sun or hold onto fingerprints, and the flutes shave real ounces off the profile so your rifle carries and swings a lot nicer.
The fluting isn't just for looks. By running six and eight flute designs, Ballistic Advantage pulls significant weight out of the SPR contour while keeping the rigidity that helps a barrel hold its group. On this style of barrel that adds up to noticeable savings over a standard heavy profile, so you get the stiffness of a bull barrel feel without lugging a fence post around. Every barrel is HP and MPI tested, meaning it's proof fired and magnetic particle inspected before it ships.
This one runs a 6.5 Grendel "Type 2" chamber, which is the modern spec you want for the widest ammo compatibility and pressure margin. The 1:8 twist stabilizes the heavier, high-BC bullets the Grendel is known for, letting you stretch it out well past 800 yards while keeping recoil mild. The mid-length gas system smooths out the cycling and takes some of the snap out of the recoil impulse, which is easy on brass and easy on your shoulder over a long range day.
The muzzle is threaded 5/8×24, the standard 6.5 pitch, so mounting a brake, flash hider, or suppressor is straightforward. The gas block journal is sized for .750" low profile gas blocks. A nickel boron coated extended M4 feed ramp extension helps things feed clean. Pair it with the correct 6.5 Grendel bolt and magazines and you've got the makings of an accurate, light-recoiling precision AR-15.
No, the barrel ships on its own without a gas block or gas tube. The journal is machined for standard .750" low profile gas blocks, so you'll want to add one along with a mid-length gas tube to complete the setup.
You'll need a dedicated 6.5 Grendel bolt, since the Grendel uses a different bolt face than 5.56. You'll also want 6.5 Grendel specific magazines for reliable feeding. The barrel drops into any standard AR-15 upper receiver otherwise.
