Geissele built its Super Precision line because a U.S. Special Operations unit wanted a scope mount that would survive abuse and come back to zero every single time. This 30mm 1.3" High Power Short Mount (part number 05-494B) carries that same DNA into a package aimed squarely at National Match and High Power competition, though plenty of folks run it as a straightforward, no-nonsense mount for any 30mm optic that doesn't need forward cant.
The short body is the whole point here. Its compact footprint lets you run shorter scopes on an AR flattop while still leaving room to dial in proper eye relief, and it works just as well mounting a longer scope on a bolt gun. The 0 MOA elevation keeps your optic dead level, and the 1.3" centerline height gives you a comfortable, heads-up cheek weld on the stock without feeling perched too high.
This one is machined from a single piece of 7075-T6 aluminum and finished in a durable black anodize. The mounting surface spans five Picatinny sections and uses four precision-cut shear lugs that drop into the rail slots, so the mount physically can't creep under recoil or bolt-carrier slap. That's the difference between a mount that holds zero and one that quietly wanders on you over a long string.
Geissele skipped the usual cross-bolt approach in favor of an updated nut-and-bolt clamping system that generates serious, even clamping force across the full interface. The result is a rock-solid, repeatable lockup that lets you pull the mount and reinstall it with your zero intact. It's built around a 30mm scope tube, so any 30mm riflescope will drop right in. The short, forward-biased design was made with compact competition optics in mind, like the Nightforce Comp series, but it handles standard 30mm scopes with normal eye relief just fine. The 0 MOA cant keeps the optic level, so it's best suited for shooting where you don't need built-in forward elevation.

The Short version (this one, 05-494B) has a more compact body that's ideal for shorter scopes on an AR or longer scopes on a bolt gun. The Extended model pushes the optic farther forward and is really meant for National Match setups. For most general-purpose 30mm scope mounting, the Short gives you more flexibility.
It does. The clamping surface spans five sections of a standard MIL-STD-1913 Picatinny rail, so it bolts right onto any AR-15 flattop upper. Just note that heavy paints or ceramic coatings in your rail slots can affect the tight lug fit, so keep the slots clean for the best lockup.
