It starts life as a match-grade 416R stainless steel blank made in Proof's own firearms division, then gets turned down to a lighter profile and wrapped in high-strength aerospace-grade carbon fiber set in a proprietary resin. The result is a Sendero contour barrel that carries like something much thinner while keeping the rigidity you want behind a 308 Win.
The carbon wrap does more than trim ounces. It pulls heat out through the barrel wall far better than steel alone, so you get faster cooling and better group consistency through longer strings of fire. Proof rates these carbon barrels at up to 64 percent lighter than a traditional steel barrel of the same contour, which is a real difference on a hunting rig you carry all day or a range gun you shoot until it's hot.
This is a shouldered, pre-chambered, pre-threaded barrel, so it drops onto Tikka T3, T3x, and Sako M85 actions without a trip to the gunsmith. You pull the old barrel, thread this one on, torque it down, and confirm headspace with go/no-go gauges before you load up. Plan on a barrel vise and an action wrench, and clamp on the steel section rather than the carbon wrap.
The 1-10 twist is the classic 308 Winchester rate and stabilizes the common 150 to 175 grain bullets that most factory match and hunting loads are built around.
