Description

Big-frame .308 and 6.5 Creedmoor carbines run hot, and a standard buffer spring often can't keep up with the mass and pressure of a heavy BCG slamming back and forth. That's exactly the problem Sprinco set out to fix with the Orange spring. It's engineered from the ground up for DPMS-pattern .308 carbines that use standard 7-inch depth M4 extension tubes and short 2.5-inch buffers, including the aftermarket heavy buffers a lot of folks run to tame recoil.

This one comes as the CS kit packaged in Sprinco's signature hard tube, so you get the Orange extra power buffer spring paired with a chrome silicon extractor spring set to sort out the two most common cycling gremlins in one shot.

What Makes the Orange 308 Buffer Spring Different

The spring is wound from certified chrome silicon wire, the same material used in Formula One valve springs that endure millions of compression cycles. Sprinco heat treats, stress relieves, and dual-stage shot peens every spring after winding, then treats it with a re-micronized molybdenum disulfide formulation. That moly coating cuts down mechanical wear and quiets the twang and spring sound you get from a worn standard action spring. The payoff is consistent pressure through the full stroke and a spring that outlasts ordinary ones by tens of thousands of rounds.

Dialing In an Over-Gassed 308 M4

If your AR-10 is throwing brass hard at 1 to 2 o'clock, short stroking, or beating up your buffer, the Orange spring is the tuning piece to reach for first. It's the stoutest option in the Sprinco lineup, which makes it a favorite for suppressed and heavily gassed .308, 6.5 CM, and .260 Rem builds. You cannot get the same spring load by clipping coils off another spring, so this is the real fix for that platform. It drops in on DPMS, Bushmaster, Remington, CMMG, Aero Precision, SA Defense, Colt 901, Rock River, and similar large-frame ARs.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which rifles is the Sprinco 308 M4 Orange buffer spring made for?

It's engineered specifically for DPMS-pattern .308 carbines that use a standard 7-inch depth M4 extension tube and a short 2.5-inch buffer. That covers platforms like DPMS, Bushmaster (post-2010), Remington, CMMG, Aero Precision, SA Defense, Colt 901, and Rock River Arms. It is not the right spring for AR-10/SR-25-pattern guns that run deeper tubes and longer carbine buffers, which use the Red spring instead.

Why choose the Orange XP spring over a standard 308 buffer spring?

The Orange is Sprinco's stoutest carbine spring, which is what over-gassed and suppressed .308 builds need to control bolt speed and cycle reliably. It's built from chrome silicon wire, shot peened, and moly-treated so it holds consistent pressure far longer than a mil-spec spring. If your rifle is short stroking or throwing brass hard, this spring is the tuning fix to start with.

Does this kit include an extractor spring?

Yes. The CS version packaged in the hard tube pairs the Orange extra power buffer spring with a chrome silicon extractor spring set. That combo addresses both buffer-side cycling and extraction reliability in one purchase.

How long does the Sprinco 308 buffer spring last?

Sprinco's chrome silicon springs are designed to outlast standard action springs by tens of thousands of rounds, well beyond the typical 5,000-round replacement interval for mil-spec springs. The moly disulfide treatment reduces mechanical wear and keeps the spring quiet and consistent over its life. For most owners it's close to a set-it-and-forget-it upgrade.
