Description

The L.E. Wilson 222 Remington Bullet Seating Die is a chamber type inline seater that has earned its reputation in the benchrest world for one simple reason: it produces seriously straight ammo. Instead of threading into a conventional press, this die captures the case and bullet inside a chamber machined to mimic your rifle, then a close-fitting seating stem pushes the bullet straight down into the neck. The case stays stationary the whole time, so there's very little room for the bullet to go in crooked.

This one is turned from machined steel rather than cast, and each seater is hand reamed to the correct headspace. The tight tolerances between the seating stem and the bore hole are where the accuracy comes from, and it's why handloaders running precision .222 Rem loads reach for a Wilson. Seating depth is set by the screw in the cap, which uses 3/8-24 threads for your major adjustments, and it ships with a standard seating stem that handles the vast majority of bullets.

How the 222 Remington Chamber Type Seater Works

This die is made for an arbor press and isn't meant to run on a standard threaded reloading press. You set a charged, primed case with a bullet balanced on the mouth into the die body, place it on the base, then press the cap down until it bottoms out. That's it. In a pinch you can even seat with a soft-faced mallet, though an arbor press gives you the consistency you're after. L.E. Wilson designed these alongside presses like the K&M Precision arbor press, so the two pair up nicely.

Why Reloaders Pick the Wilson 222 Rem Seating Die

Low runout is the headline here. By keeping everything aligned before the bullet ever moves, you get more concentric rounds than a typical seating die tends to deliver. These seaters have been in use by competitive shooters for generations and have carried over into F-Class, High Power, PRS and other accuracy-driven games. If you're loading .222 Remington for small groups, this is about as refined as a seating setup gets. It's made in the U.S.A. and built to last a lifetime of loading sessions.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does the 222 Remington bullet seating die work on a standard reloading press?

No, this is a chamber type inline die built for an arbor press. You can also seat with a soft-faced mallet in a pinch, but it is not designed to thread into a conventional 7/8-14 reloading press. An arbor press is the way to get the consistent results these dies are known for.

Why does the Wilson chamber type seater produce straighter ammo?

The case and bullet are fully captured inside a chamber machined to mimic your rifle before the bullet ever moves. A close-fitting seating stem then pushes the bullet straight down while the case stays stationary. That tight alignment is what keeps runout low and groups tight.

What seating stem comes with the BS22-REM die?

It ships with a standard seating stem, which handles the majority of bullets you would load in .222 Remington. VLD stems are available separately if you are shooting bullets with long, pointed ogives that benefit from a different contact profile.

How do you adjust seating depth on this die?

Major seating depth changes are made by turning the screw inside the cap, which uses 3/8-24 threads. A good habit is to seat a dummy round, measure your overall length, and dial it in from there. It is a simple setup once you have it close.
