If you carry a 1911 and want the protection of a beavertail without the extra bulk, this is what you're looking for. Ed Brown designed this concealed carry version specifically for people who need the hand protection and control of a full beavertail but don't want it sticking out past the gun. The tail gets machined down by about a tenth of an inch, keeping your 1911 cleaner in a holster and more comfortable against your body.
This CC beavertail still plays nice with Commander style hammers, so you won't need to hunt down special hardware just to make it fit. It's fully machined from solid bar stock, which means better precision and durability than stamped alternatives. That's how Ed Brown builds everything, and this part is no exception.
The whole point of running a beavertail is getting your hand deeper into the gun. That positioning matters because it aligns the bore better with your forearm, which cuts down felt recoil and makes your natural point of aim sharper. You'll notice the difference at the range. Series 70 frames only, and it comes in stainless steel that'll hold up through years of use.
This beavertail requires fitting to your frame. You'll need to cut your frame tang to approximately a 0.250 inch radius. A beavertail fitting jig makes this much easier and more accurate. We recommend having a gunsmith handle the installation if you haven't done this type of work before.
This concealed carry model is designed to work with Commander style hammers without requiring a special order. If you're running a different hammer type, verify compatibility before purchasing.
The tail protrusion gets trimmed down by about a tenth of an inch, giving you most of the hand protection and control of a full beavertail while keeping your gun more compact for concealed carry. You still get the benefit of better grip positioning and reduced felt recoil.
