With an unloaded and verified clear firearm, mount your suppressor, then slide the rod down the bore from the chamber end until it passes through the suppressor's end cap. Look at how the rod sits relative to the exit hole and baffles. If it's centered with even clearance all around, you're aligned. If it touches or sits noticeably off center, address the mounting setup before firing.
This rod is sized for 7.62mm and .308 caliber bores. Geissele grinds it 0.002 inch under nominal bore diameter, which accommodates the normal variation in bore size and straightness across most barrels. For other calibers like 5.56, you'd want the correspondingly sized rod instead.
