Description

Some guns try to do everything. This one tries to do two things really well and stay out of your way the rest of the time. The Rossi Survival is a break action single shot with a 3 inch chamber that digests both 410 bore shotshells and 45 Colt, which means one compact firearm covers rabbits and grouse with birdshot, then swaps to a full power revolver cartridge for larger game or serious problems in the backcountry. The 16 inch alloy steel barrel wears a black oxide finish and carries a 1:24 right hand twist, so 45 Colt and 410 slugs both get a real boost in velocity and accuracy compared to running them out of a handgun.

What the Folding Stock Brings to the Rossi Survival

This version adds Rossi's factory folding stock, and it changes how you carry the gun more than how you shoot it. The high impact polymer stock swings to the side and clicks into a detent, shrinking the whole package for a backpack, ATV bag, or behind the seat. When it's time to shoot, it snaps open and locks up solid with no wobble. Combined with the takedown design and a weight of just over 3 pounds, this is about as packable as a shoulder fired gun gets.

Simple Controls, Built for Rough Use

The action is the same one Rossi built the Brawler and Tuffy line around: a polymer receiver molded over a steel trunnion, so the breech face and hinge points are steel where it counts while the rest stays light and shrugs off weather. You get an exposed hammer, a right side barrel release, a crossbolt safety backed by a transfer bar, and an ejector that kicks empties clear for quick reloads. Up top there's a fixed front sight and a Picatinny rail, so adding a red dot takes minutes.

Where the Rossi Survival 410/45 Colt Earns Its Keep

This is a trapline gun, a camp gun, a stash-it-and-forget-it gun. It's not fancy, and that's the point. Load what the situation calls for, cock the hammer, and make your one shot count.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can the Rossi Survival really fire both 410 shotshells and 45 Colt?

Yes, that's the whole idea. The 3 inch chamber accepts 2.5 and 3 inch 410 bore shells as well as 45 Colt cartridges, no swapping parts required. The rifled 16 inch barrel gives 45 Colt and 410 slugs a nice velocity and accuracy bump over a handgun, while shotshells still pattern well enough for small game at close range.

How does the folding stock work on this model?

The factory polymer stock folds to the side and a detent holds it closed so it stays put in a pack or bag. Swing it open and it locks up solid for shooting, with a release detent above the grip when you want to fold it back down. It's made from the same high impact polymer as Rossi's standard stocks, so there's no durability tradeoff.

Can I mount a red dot on the Rossi Survival shotgun?

Yes. The receiver has a Picatinny rail on top with a rear sight groove machined in, so you can run the fixed iron sights as is or clamp on a compact red dot in a couple of minutes. Given how light and quick handling this gun is, a small dot pairs with it really well.

How does the action and safety setup work?

It's a single action design, so you manually cock the exposed hammer before each shot. A crossbolt safety plus a transfer bar keep it from firing if the hammer gets bumped or the gun takes a drop. A lever on the right side of the receiver pops the barrel open, and the ejector kicks spent hulls clear so reloads are quick.
