Description
The MDT ORYX Sportsman Chassis takes a factory Savage 110 short action and turns it into a genuinely capable precision setup. It's machined from a full block of 6061 aluminum, hard anodized to a MIL-Spec finish, with polymer side panels bolted on to keep your hands comfortable whether it's a frosty morning in the blind or a hot afternoon on the firing line. The action beds directly onto the aluminum block and the barrel free floats, so your Savage gets a rock-solid foundation without any bedding work or a trip to the gunsmith.
What the ORYX Sportsman Does for Your Savage 110
Dropping this chassis on is about as painless as an upgrade gets. You pull the barreled action out of the factory stock, set it into the ORYX, and torque down two action screws that come in the box. From there the buttstock adjusts for length of pull and cheek height, so you dial in a repeatable cheek weld and a comfortable reach to the trigger. It also swaps your Savage's internal magazine for detachable AICS-pattern mags, which is a nice bonus for faster reloads at a match or in the field.
Building Out Your ORYX Sportsman Chassis
The forend runs M-LOK slots for a bipod, ARCA rail, sling mount, or whatever else you like to hang off the front. It takes standard AR-15 pistol grips, so you can run whatever grip already feels right in your hand. The barrel channel clears up to a 1.25-inch diameter, which leaves plenty of room for heavier profiles. This is the same platform that's carried people to wins in NRL Hunter, PRS, and rimfire matches, and it doubles nicely as a stable hunting rig for coyote, hog, or whitetail.
At around 4.2 pounds, the ORYX has real mass to it, which settles the rifle down and soaks up recoil when you're stretching things out to distance. For a chassis that shoots this well and installs this easily, it's tough to beat as a first step into precision shooting.

Frequently Asked Questions
Which Savage rifles does the ORYX Sportsman Chassis fit?
This version is cut for Savage 110 short-action right-hand rifles. The Savage short-action inlet is designed to work with common action screw spacings and fits models like the 10, 11, 12, 14, and 16. Note that MDT has flagged some newer 2026 Savage 110 models as not yet compatible, so if you have a very recent rifle it's worth confirming the action generation before ordering.
Do I need a gunsmith to install the ORYX chassis?
No gunsmithing required. You remove the barreled action from your factory stock, drop it into the ORYX, and tighten the two included action screws to about a quarter turn past snug. Most people have it done at the kitchen table in a few minutes.
Does the ORYX Sportsman Chassis come with a magazine?
The chassis does not include a magazine. It's set up for detachable AICS-pattern magazines, which you'll want to pick up separately in the length that matches your cartridge. This converts your Savage from an internal box to a removable-mag setup.
Can I mount a bipod and ARCA rail on this chassis?
Yes. The forend has M-LOK slots on the bottom, so you can add an M-LOK bipod, sling mount, or an ARCA rail for tripod work. The barrel channel clears up to a 1.25-inch diameter, so heavier barrel profiles free float without contact.
