Winchester's Super-X line has been the go-to choice for hunters and field shooters since 1922, and these 2 3/4 inch rifled slugs carry on that tradition of dependable performance. The 1 ounce hollow point slug launches at 1,600 feet per second, packing enough energy to handle medium and large game at practical hunting ranges. The full-bore rifled design works great in standard smooth bore shotguns without needing a specialized barrel.
The exterior rifling on the slug itself keeps it stable in flight while the grooves allow it to compress slightly through choke tubes. Unlike sabot slugs that need a rifled barrel, these rifled slugs are built to shoot accurately from any standard shotgun, whether cylinder, modified, or improved-cylinder choke. The hollow point construction provides rapid expansion on impact for ethical, effective harvesting. Within their effective range of around 100 yards, these slugs consistently deliver the accuracy and penetration you need for confident shot placement.
The lower recoil impulse compared to standard magnum loads means faster follow-up shots and less shoulder punishment during longer hunting days. You get genuine Winchester quality and consistency without sacrificing the stopping power that made this line legendary. The ammunition is designed to perform across a wide temperature range, so cold mornings and warm afternoons won't affect reliability.
Whether you're hunting thick cover where rifled slugs shine, pursuing deer in areas that limit you to shotgun-only seasons, or stocking up for range practice, these shells perform across different hunting situations. The 15-pack gives you plenty without committing to a full case, making it easy to try them in your shotgun and see how they perform in your particular gun.
These shells are designed for smooth bore barrels and work with cylinder, modified, or improved-cylinder chokes. The rifling on the slug itself provides flight stabilization, so you don't need a specially rifled barrel like you would for sabot slugs. You can shoot them in any standard shotgun barrel with consistent accuracy.
These rifled slugs are purpose-built for hunting deer and other medium to large game, especially in thick cover where their shorter effective range (typically 50-100 yards) is advantageous. They're also suitable for home defense or situations where you need maximum stopping power with a single solid projectile instead of buckshot pellets.
Within their effective range of 100 yards or less, Winchester Super-X slugs deliver solid groupings. Smoothbore shotguns typically shoot 4-6 inch groups at 100 yards depending on the gun and choke. Accuracy depends on your specific shotgun since different guns prefer different slug brands, so testing them in your gun is the best way to find what works.
Absolutely. Even with reduced recoil, the 1 ounce hollow point slug at 1,600 fps delivers around 2,488 foot-pounds of energy at the muzzle, which is more than enough stopping power for ethical kills on deer and similar game. The low-recoil design simply makes it more comfortable to shoot, especially during longer range sessions.
