Cadex built its name on long range rifles that show up in military and police armories around the world, and the CDX-SS Seven S.T.A.R.S. Covert Compact is what happens when that engineering gets squeezed into the smallest package possible. The idea is simple: a bolt gun with real precision credentials that folds down small enough to move discreetly and deploy fast. This .308 Win version wears a 16.5 inch fluted Bartlein barrel with a 1:10 twist, finished in black DLC and threaded 5/8×24 at the muzzle. Bartlein blanks are about as good as it gets in the precision world, so the accuracy side of the equation is well covered.
The fore-end is the clever part. Cadex shortened the M-LOK tube compared to their other rifles but designed it with enough interior room to house their slim Covert suppressor, so a can tucks inside the handguard instead of hanging way out front. Up top you still get a full 19 inch Picatinny rail with plenty of real estate for a scope plus a clip-on night vision unit. The folding buttstock comes straight off the Strike PRO chassis, with tool-free adjustments for length of pull and cheek height, and it locks up tight with no rattle. Folded, the whole rifle shrinks down dramatically for transport in a pack or discreet case.
The DX2 Evo trigger is a standout feature. You can run it as a single stage or two stage depending on your preference, and pull weight adjusts between 1.5 and 2.5 pounds. The trigger guard and mag release are oversized for gloved hands, and the rubberized Cadex grip is comfortable through long sessions behind the glass. Feeding comes from a 10 round detachable magazine for 10+1 capacity.
This is a specialized tool, no question. But for anyone who wants genuine match-grade performance in a rifle that packs down small, whether that is a patrol trunk, a tight blind, or a travel case, the CDX-SS Covert Compact does things almost nothing else on the market can.
That is the whole trick of this design. The shortened M-LOK fore-end tube has enough interior diameter to house Cadex's slim Covert suppressor, so the can sits inside the handguard instead of adding a bunch of length out front. The barrel is threaded 5/8×24, so it will also accept most standard .30 caliber muzzle devices if you prefer to run a brake.
It uses the Cadex DX2 Evo, which is one of the more versatile factory triggers out there. You can switch it between single stage and two stage operation, and the pull weight adjusts from 1.5 to 2.5 pounds. That range covers everything from deliberate precision work to faster paced shooting.
The reverse-folding buttstock collapses over the action and covers the bolt handle, shrinking the rifle down dramatically for a pack or low profile case. Stock adjustments for length of pull and cheek height are all tool-free, so you can fold it, stow it, and get back to your exact fit in seconds.
