Alpha Foxtrot has been quietly building a reputation out of Duluth, Georgia, and the AF1911 Romulus is the clearest statement of what they're capable of. This is a double-stack, 2011-style pistol in a 4.25" commander-length format, chambered in 9mm, and finished in a polished DLC Black coating that is as functional as it looks. The frame and slide are both machined from SUS416 stainless steel, which gives the gun serious corrosion resistance and the kind of tight slide-to-frame fit that usually costs considerably more. What sets this particular configuration apart is the aluminum grip module. Where most Romulus variants ship with a polymer grip shell, this one steps up to a precision-machined aluminum unit that adds rigidity to the platform, improves the balance of the pistol in hand, and gives it a feel that is noticeably more planted and substantial.
The 4.25" barrel here is a compensated, bull-ramped, threaded design with a 1:10 right-hand twist. The integrated compensator vents gas upward to reduce muzzle rise, which makes a real difference when running the gun fast or stepping up to hotter 9mm loads. The bull barrel configuration also eliminates the traditional bushing and supports accuracy. With the comp doing its job, the Romulus tracks noticeably flatter on follow-up shots, which is exactly what you want from a platform built around the crisp single-action 1911 trigger.
The slide is MOS-cut, and the package includes both an RMSC plate and an RMR adapter plate, so you can mount a wide range of popular micro red dots or full-size RMR-footprint optics right out of the box without hunting for parts. A Night Fision front sight is installed for iron-sight use or as a backup. Additional controls include an ambidextrous thumb safety, a grip safety, an extended beavertail to protect against hammer bite, an extended slide release, and an oversized, flared magwell on the aluminum grip assembly for fast reloads. The trigger is factory-set in the 3.5 to 4 lb range with a flat face and a clean break that is a hallmark of the 1911 platform. A Picatinny rail on the dustcover rounds out the accessory options for light or laser attachment.
Alpha Foxtrot offers the Romulus with both a polymer and a precision-machined aluminum grip module. The aluminum version adds rigidity to the shooting platform, improves balance toward the grip end of the pistol, and gives the gun a more solid, planted feel in hand. It is a noticeable upgrade for those who want a more premium feel or who run the pistol in a competition context where consistency matters.
The MOS-cut slide on this model is compatible with both RMR-footprint and RMSc-footprint optics via the included adapter plates. The RMSc plate comes pre-installed, and a Trijicon RMR plate is also in the box. That covers a wide range of popular red dots including the Trijicon RMR and SRO, Holosun 507C and similar full-size footprint dots, and micro dots like the Holosun 507K on the RMSc side.
The comp does its best work with standard-pressure and hotter 9mm loads during fast shooting strings, where it helps keep the muzzle from rising and gets the dot or sights back on target quicker. With standard-pressure range ammo at a slow pace the effect is subtle, which is true of most compact compensators. If you run the gun hard or use higher-pressure loads, the benefit is genuine and noticeable.
The AF1911 Romulus uses standard 2011-pattern double-stack magazines, and the polymer grip module is compatible with common 1911/2011-style magazines. The pistol ships with one 17-round and one 20-round magazine. STI, MBX, and similar quality 2011 magazines are widely reported to work well in the platform.
Yes, the 4.25" barrel on this model is threaded to accept a compensator, suppressor, or muzzle device. The compensator is already installed from the factory on this configuration. Alpha Foxtrot has not widely publicized the exact thread pitch in standard retail listings, so if you intend to swap muzzle devices, it is worth confirming the pitch with Alpha Foxtrot directly or your dealer before purchasing a muzzle device separately.
Like most tightly fitted 1911-style pistols, the Romulus benefits from a proper break-in. Some owners report that the action smooths out considerably after the first few hundred rounds, which is consistent with how well-fitted steel-on-steel guns tend to behave. A good initial cleaning, proper lubrication on the rails and barrel, and running a couple hundred rounds through it before calling it fully dialed in is the standard approach for any quality 1911-pattern pistol.
