Description

Dead Air took their time bringing a dedicated 5.56 can to market, and the Sierra 5 shows why the wait was worth it. Instead of cutting corners with plain stainless baffles, they went with fully welded Stellite, a cobalt alloy that laughs at the kind of heat and erosion that eats up lesser materials. That core gets wrapped in a 17-4 PH stainless steel tube and laser welded into one solid unit. The result is a suppressor that's full-auto rated with zero barrel length restrictions, so you can hang it on a short-barreled pistol or SBR and run it hard without babying it.

Why the Sierra 5 Earns Its Hard-Use Reputation

The baffle geometry was designed from the ground up for the 5.56 platform, balancing sound and flash reduction with low blowback and a short pressure impulse. That matters more than spec sheets suggest. Less gas back in your face means a more pleasant day at the range, and the flash hider front cap keeps your muzzle signature tame in low light. The knurled tube isn't just for looks either. It gives you real grip when the can is dirty or you're wearing gloves, and it holds a suppressor wrap in place nicely.

KeyMo Mounting and HUB Flexibility

This version ships with Dead Air's proven KeyMo quick-detach system, including a 1/2-28 KeyMo flash hider, so it's ready to mount on a standard AR muzzle right out of the box. KeyMo has become one of the most widely adopted QD systems out there, with consistent return to zero every time you pop the can on and off. Since the Sierra 5 uses the industry standard 1.375-24 HUB thread at the rear, you're never locked in. Swap to a Xeno mount or direct thread adapter whenever your setup changes.

Sierra 5 Details That Matter Down the Road

The front cap socket accepts all of Dead Air's R-Series caps plus the Sandman E-Brake, so if you ever ding an endcap, you replace the cap instead of shipping the whole suppressor off. Heavy lug tool features and the included tool pack make swapping adapters simple. At just over six inches with the mount, it keeps your rifle handy while taking the bark out of 5.56.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I run the Dead Air Sierra 5 on a short barrel or full-auto host?

Yes, and that's a big part of the appeal. The Sierra 5 is full-auto rated with no barrel length restrictions, thanks to its fully welded Stellite baffle core. Stellite handles extreme heat far better than standard stainless steel, so short-barreled hosts with hot, high-volume gas are exactly what this can was built for.

What mounts and muzzle devices work with the Sierra 5 KeyMo?

This version ships with a KeyMo adapter and a 1/2-28 KeyMo flash hider, so it works with any KeyMo compatible muzzle device. Because the rear of the suppressor uses the standard 1.375-24 HUB thread, you can also swap the KeyMo adapter for a Xeno mount, direct thread adapter, or other HUB compatible mounting systems down the road.

Does the Sierra 5 hold zero when you remove and reattach it?

Yes. The KeyMo mounting system is known for repeatable return to zero, and range testing on the Sierra 5 has consistently shown minimal, predictable point of impact shift. As long as you index the can the same way each time, you can pull it off for transport and reattach it without re-zeroing your rifle.

What happens if I get a baffle or endcap strike on my Sierra 5?

The front cap is user replaceable, which is a real advantage. The Sierra 5 accepts all of Dead Air's R-Series front caps as well as the Sandman E-Brake, so if you damage an endcap you can simply swap it yourself instead of sending the entire suppressor back to the factory. It's a small design detail that saves a lot of downtime.
