Carbon fiber barrels used to be something you paid a custom shop to install. Savage skipped that step and bolted a genuine Proof Research carbon fiber wrapped stainless steel barrel onto a factory blueprinted 110 action, and the result is a 6.5 Creedmoor that holds its own at distance while staying light enough to carry all day. The 22 inch barrel is cut rifled with a 1:8 twist, so it stabilizes the long, high-BC bullets that made the Creedmoor famous, and the threaded muzzle is ready for a brake or suppressor whenever you are.
The carbon fiber wrap does more than trim weight. It stiffens the barrel and sheds heat faster than a comparable steel profile, which helps keep groups tight during longer strings. Underneath, the AccuStock secures the action three dimensionally along its full length, and the AccuFit system lets you dial in comb height and length of pull with the included inserts. Add the AccuTrigger, adjustable from roughly 1.5 to 4 pounds, and you have a rifle you can genuinely fit to yourself instead of adapting your form to the gun.
The matte black carbon steel receiver comes drilled and tapped with 8-40 screws and wears a one-piece 20 MOA rail, giving you the extra elevation that long-range dialing eats up fast. A beavertail forend rides bags and tripods nicely, three sling swivel studs let you run a sling and bipod at the same time, and the tang safety falls right under your thumb for either hand.
Savage ships this one with a 10-round Magpul AICS pattern detachable magazine, and the rifle accepts the wide world of AICS mags, so spares are easy to find. Whether your plans lean toward PRS-style matches, steel at 1,000 yards, or a lighter precision rig for hunting season, this setup covers a lot of ground with one rifle.
The barrel is made by Proof Research, one of the most respected names in carbon fiber barrel manufacturing. It is a stainless steel, cut rifled blank wrapped in carbon fiber, which trims weight and helps the barrel shed heat during longer shooting sessions. Getting a Proof barrel on a factory rifle at this level is a big part of the appeal.
It runs AICS pattern detachable box magazines and ships with a 10-round Magpul AICS mag in the box. Since AICS is one of the most common precision rifle magazine patterns out there, finding spares in different capacities is quick and easy.
Yes, and that is one of Savage's biggest strengths. The AccuFit system uses included inserts to adjust comb height and length of pull so you get a proper cheek weld behind your scope, and the AccuTrigger is user-adjustable from roughly 1.5 to 4 pounds. No gunsmith visit needed for either.
The muzzle comes threaded from the factory, so it will accept a suppressor or muzzle brake with the appropriate thread mount. A thread protector keeps things covered when you are running it bare. The 22 inch barrel in 6.5 Creedmoor also keeps overall length reasonable once a can is attached.
