The .45 ACP is the cartridge that pushed CMMG to develop their Radial Delayed Blowback system in the first place, and the Banshee MKG is where that engineering shines brightest. Instead of relying on a heavy bolt and stiff buffer like straight blowback guns, the rotating bolt delays the action just long enough to let pressure drop, which means a lighter carrier group and a recoil impulse that feels more like a 9mm than a big-bore pistol caliber. Spend a magazine or two behind one and the difference is obvious. Less muzzle flip, less port noise, and faster follow-up shots.
CMMG built the MkG platform around Glock-pattern .45 ACP magazines, so this pistol ships with a 13-round mag and happily accepts the same magazines that feed a Glock 21. That is a smart move for anyone who already owns a big-bore Glock, and it keeps spare mags affordable and easy to find. The lower also wears CMMG's Zeroed furniture, including an ambidextrous 60/90 degree safety with a short, positive throw.
The 8-inch barrel squeezes solid velocity out of the .45 ACP while keeping the whole package short and quick to maneuver. The muzzle is threaded 0.578×28, and since .45 ACP runs subsonic with most standard loads, this Banshee is one of the best suppressor hosts you can put a can on. The EML handguard gives you M-LOK slots along the sides and bottom plus Picatinny sections up top for an optic and light, and the flat top receiver is ready for whatever red dot you prefer since no sights come installed.
The included RipBrace extends with a straight rearward pull, so you can go from stowed to shouldered position in one motion without fumbling with adjustment levers. The Midnight Bronze Cerakote over the billet receivers gives it a look you will not mistake for a rack-grade black rifle, and CMMG backs the whole thing with their Lifetime Quality Guarantee.
It runs Glock-pattern .45 ACP magazines and ships with one 13-round mag. Factory Glock 21 magazines are the sure bet for reliability, and CMMG recommends sticking with OEM Glock mags. Aftermarket options exist, but factory Glock magazines are the ones this platform was designed around.
It is one of the best in the pistol caliber AR world. Most standard .45 ACP loads are already subsonic, and the Radial Delayed Blowback system keeps the action locked a fraction longer, which cuts down on port noise and gas blowback at the ear. The barrel is threaded 0.578×28 for direct thread .45 cans and mounts.
Straight blowback guns need a heavy bolt and buffer to hold the action closed, which adds weight and a harsh recoil impulse. CMMG's system uses a rotating bolt that has to unlock before the carrier moves rearward, so the bolt group can be much lighter. The result is noticeably softer recoil and less muzzle flip, especially with a stout round like the .45 ACP.
No, it ships without sights. The flat top Picatinny rail and railed handguard sections give you plenty of room to mount a red dot, backup irons, or both. A compact red dot is the most popular setup on this platform given its close-in, quick-handling nature.
