Description

The 1911 platform has been around for over a century for good reason, and Alpha Foxtrot figured out how to bring it into the modern era without losing what makes it great. The Romulus is a 2011-style, hammer-fired double-stack pistol built around a compact 3.5" bull barrel and chambered in 9mm. The frame and slide are machined from SUS416 stainless steel and finished in a polished Diamond-Like Carbon (DLC) coating that holds up to hard use and looks sharp doing it. This is the MOS Adapter version, which means the optics-ready slide accepts both RMSc and RMR footprints via included adapter plates, giving you flexibility to run a wide range of micro and full-size red dots without any gunsmithing.

The barrel itself is an ultra-match 416R button-rifled unit with a 1:10 right-hand twist and 6-groove rifling, which contributes to consistently tight groups. The trigger comes factory-tuned to approximately 3.5 to 4 pounds with a skeletonized design and a crisp, clean break that compares favorably to pistols costing considerably more. Front and rear slide serrations make for easy manipulation, and the extended slide release gives you solid leverage with minimal effort.

The ergonomics have been well thought out. The injected polymer grip module features aggressive texturing for a secure hold under rapid fire, and the extended beavertail keeps your hand high and protected. A flared competition magwell makes reloads fast and forgiving, which matters whether you're running drills or competing. Night Fision sights are installed from the factory, giving you solid irons right out of the box even if you're not yet running a dot. The Picatinny accessory rail underneath gives you a spot for a light or laser when needed.

Alpha Foxtrot manufactures the Romulus in the USA, and this platform has built a strong following among 1911 enthusiasts who want genuine 2011-level features without paying custom shop prices. It's a solid choice for competition, range training, or anyone who wants a compact carry-capable pistol with real performance credentials.

Frequently Asked Questions

What red dot optics are compatible with the AF1911 Romulus MOS version?

This specific model uses an MOS adapter system that accepts both RMSc and RMR footprint optics via the included adapter plates. That covers a wide range of popular micro red dots like the Holosun 507K and Shield RMSc, as well as full-size RMR-pattern optics from Trijicon and others. Both adapter plates are included in the box, so you won't need to track down additional hardware.

What is the difference between the Romulus MOS version and the standard RMSC cut version?

The standard RMSC cut is milled directly into the slide for a specific micro red dot footprint and is not compatible with RMR-style optics without modification. The MOS Adapter version, which is what this model is, uses a rear adapter plate system that supports both RMSc and RMR footprints. It gives you more flexibility if you want to switch optics down the road.

Is the AF1911 Romulus made in the USA?

Yes, Alpha Foxtrot designs and manufactures the Romulus in Georgia. The frame and slide are CNC-machined from SUS416 stainless steel domestically, and the finished product reflects that level of care in fit, finish, and overall build quality.

What magazines does the Romulus use, and are aftermarket mags available?

The Romulus uses a polymer double-stack grip module that is compatible with standard 2011-style double-stack magazines. It ships with both a 17-round and a 20-round magazine, giving you options right out of the box. Aftermarket 2011-compatible magazines from brands like Mec-Gar and others are generally available as well.

How does the 3.5" compact version compare to the larger Romulus models?

The Romulus lineup is available in 5" full size, 4.25" commander, and this 3.5" compact configuration. The 3.5" version trades a bit of sight radius for a shorter, handier package that's easier to carry concealed or maneuver in tighter situations. All three sizes share the same core features, including the DLC finish, Night Fision sights, polymer grip module, and optics-ready slide.

Does the AF1911 Romulus come with a warranty?

Alpha Foxtrot backs the Romulus with a one-year warranty on non-modified pistols. As with most 1911 and 2011 platform pistols, a proper break-in period with quality 9mm ammunition is recommended to ensure reliable cycling from the start.
