CDS stands for Covert Double Stack, and Kimber's naming doesn't leave much to the imagination. This is a purpose-built everyday carry 9mm that grew out of the beloved Micro 9 platform but addresses the one complaint almost everyone had about it: capacity. With a double-stack design and a 15+1 capability using the included extended magazine, the CDS9 brings a lot more firepower to the table without blowing up the footprint of the gun. The overall length stays at 6.2 inches, the width holds at 1.1 inches, and the weight comes in right around 20.8 ounces empty. That's a lot of gun in a package that still disappears under a cover garment.
The frame is aluminum with a Kimpro Silver finish, and the slide is stainless steel with aggressive fish scale serrations front and rear for a solid grip during manipulations. The slide comes optic-ready with a direct-mount RMSc footprint, so popular micro red dots like the Holosun 507K or Shield RMSc drop right in without an adapter plate. The iron sights consist of a white dot front and blacked-out rear, which work fine as backup sights or for running the gun as-is. A Picatinny accessory rail on the dust cover lets you mount a compact weapon light or laser, rounding out the feature set nicely for a carry or home defense role.

The CDS9 features a two-slot Picatinny rail on the dust cover that accepts compact weapon lights and lasers. Lights like the Streamlight TLR-7 Sub and similarly sized compact units are commonly used on this platform. Just note that the rail is sized for micro and sub-compact lights, not full-size duty light fixtures.
The CDS9 was built as a direct successor to the Micro 9, keeping what worked, including the all-metal frame, hammer-fired action, and slim profile, while addressing the biggest limitation: capacity. Where the Micro 9 topped out at 7 rounds, the CDS9 gets you to 15+1 with a double-stack design. It's also optic-ready and rail-equipped out of the box, features the Micro 9 never offered.
