Description
The M&P9 M2.0 Metal has been one of the better full-size 9mm options on the market since S&W moved the platform to an aluminum frame, and this ACRO-cut variant takes it a step further for anyone already running or planning to run an Aimpoint ACRO optic. The slide is machined for a direct-mount fit, meaning the optic sits as low as physically possible with no adapter plate between the sight and the slide. Less height, fewer potential points of loosening, and a cleaner setup overall.
S&W also added their ClearSight Cut to the slide forward of the optic pocket. It is a machined channel that diverts combustion gases away from the front lens of the mounted optic. Enclosed dots like the ACRO are more resistant to debris than open-emitter sights, but gas wash over extended range sessions is still a real thing. The ClearSight Cut addresses that before it becomes a problem.
The rest of the pistol is pure M2.0 Metal DNA. The frame is 7075-T6 aluminum with a black anodized finish, built around an 18-degree grip angle that puts the bore axis in a natural position in the hand. The flat-face M2.0 trigger gives consistent finger placement shot to shot, and the stainless steel barrel and slide both wear S&W's Armornite finish for serious corrosion resistance. Aggressive front and rear slide serrations, a low bore axis, and a stainless steel chassis embedded in the frame round out a package that is genuinely confidence-inspiring to handle.
For anyone who hasn't committed to an optic yet, the pistol ships with optic-height night sights already installed so it's fully usable as-is. When you do mount an ACRO, those sights co-witness through it. It also includes four interchangeable palmswell inserts (S, M, ML, L) so you can dial in the grip fit for your hand size. The ACRO optic itself is sold separately, and a cover plate is included to protect the mounting pocket until you're ready.

Frequently Asked Questions
Does the M&P9 M2.0 Metal ACRO come with the Aimpoint ACRO optic?
No, the Aimpoint ACRO optic is sold separately. The pistol comes with a slide that is pre-cut for direct mounting of the ACRO, along with a cover plate to protect the mounting area when no optic is installed. It also ships with optic-height night sights so it is fully functional right out of the box.
What is the ClearSight Cut and why does it matter?
The ClearSight Cut is a machined channel in the slide just forward of the optic mounting pocket. Its purpose is to redirect combustion gases away from the front lens of a mounted enclosed red dot like the ACRO. Even though enclosed emitters are less prone to fouling than open dots, gas wash from the ejection port can still build up on the lens during longer range sessions, so this feature helps keep your sight picture clean.
Can I use other enclosed red dot optics on this ACRO-cut slide?
The direct-mount cut is machined specifically for the Aimpoint ACRO footprint. Several other optics from different manufacturers share that same footprint, including the Burris FastFire E, Steiner MPS, and Viridian RFX45, so you do have options beyond the Aimpoint itself. That said, always verify compatibility with the specific optic you are considering before purchasing.
How does the M&P9 M2.0 Metal handle compared to the standard polymer M&P9?
The aluminum frame adds some mass compared to the polymer version, which generally helps soak up recoil and reduce felt muzzle rise during rapid fire. The 7075-T6 frame is also more rigid, which contributes to consistent accuracy and a more planted feel in the hand. The weight difference is modest at 30 ounces unloaded, so it does not feel dramatically heavier.
What holsters fit the M&P9 M2.0 Metal with an ACRO mounted?
Because this pistol is built on the standard M&P M2.0 platform, it is compatible with holsters designed for the M&P9 M2.0 with an optic. You will want to specifically look for holsters cut for the Aimpoint ACRO footprint optic to ensure a proper fit with the optic installed. Many major holster manufacturers including Safariland support this configuration.
Does this pistol require a trigger pull to field strip?
No. S&W's patented take-down lever and sear deactivation system allows for field stripping without pulling the trigger, which is a genuinely useful safety feature during disassembly. The process is straightforward and consistent with other M&P M2.0 models, so existing M&P owners will feel right at home.
